For the second time in the last month, an AE prepaid card from a rebate has kept going past its value while filling up gas, instead of stopping at the amount that it says is loaded onto it, until I noticed and stopped filling at about 10 bucks over the card's value. I went inside both times to speak to the attendant and pay the balance past what the card had. Both times they have said that it showed up as all paid.
Note: This usually does not happen to me, all but 2 cards that I have used have stopped at their values.
Has this happened to anyone else? Do I have to worry about AE coming after me?
EDIT: Pulled up the card history online. Transaction shows as pending and available balance is negative.

if your balance is (ie $15.97 then you stop at $15.97 then start the transaction again or go inside say $15.97 on this card and this balance on this card. either way it is a hassle try anther kind of store or buy something online.
I had something similar happen to me. I was overcharged at a Waffle House. My balance showed up as negative. I called and they said that since it was Waffle House's fault, they'd have to pay for it. Makes me wonder what would happen if it wasn't an accidental overcharge. I was pretty pissed too since the amount they charged was double how much my meal cost.
