5.0 out of 5 stars Almost Perfect for Under $100 Just got Patched to Jelly Bean! March 19, 2013

UPDATE: Last week, T-Mobile sent a patch to Android 4.1 Jellybean! I really like the subtle changes with 4.1, and the handset actually runs better with some apps. If you are on T-Mobile, be watching for it."
Review is dated March 2013. And "last week" is referring to April/May when it was first released. On May 7, T-Mobile halted the Android 4.1 OTA update [t-mobile.com]. Lots of users were experiencing problems. No ETA on when it will be fixed.

Good deal...wonder if this would be enough of an upgrade from a Galaxy Exhibit II to bother.

Bizarre that the L9 US version doesn't have an ambient light sensor.

Had the Exhibit 2 for several months - its garbage compared to this LG - your comparing cat vs Beast.

I upgraded from the Exhibit II to this phone and the difference is pretty huge. Web browsing on the Exhibit II tended to render webpages painfully slowly but on the L9 browsing is a much smoother and faster experience.

T-mobile should put this @ $150, just like what Fry's did this week.

Did a similar deal a while back for my girlfriend and they didn't send a prepaid card, they sent an activation card. I was instructed by T-Mobile that since I wasn't activating a new line of service I'd have to activate a new line of service to get the $50 credit applied to the account, then do an account transfer of the funds to the existing phone line. This was also after having to convince the CSR that I was actually entitled to the $50. There was nothing on the invoice, order details, or receipt to acknowledge the prepaid amount. Just a heads up that this might not go smoothly. The phone also died about 3 months later and since she's on a prepaid line T-Mobile doesn't handle warranty claims, so I had to go through LG. Took about 10 days to get the phone back.

Otherwise its a pretty good phone. While waiting for the phone to get back I let her use my old Galaxy Nexus and she's decided to keep it rather than use the L9. Had she never used the GN she'd probably be very happy with the L9. She also upgraded to this from an Exhibit II and this phone is much better.

Why would any one sign up for a contract and pay $100 for this phone when you could get it now for $179 on amazon without a contract or like I and most people got it for $199 last year from tmobile directly with the $50 pre paid card which I sold for $50 to a relative and ultimately got the phone clean for $160 after taxes.

Hey, I am not telling people to sign up for a 2-yr contract. someone was asking when the phone was selling for $100 and I posted the reason.

I got this for $170, this is a good deal on a great midrange phone. I have enjoyed it greatly and was such a massive upgrade from my old Optimus M it's not even funny.

Do note that they stopped the Jelly Bean update and have not resumed it. I don't know that I care much.

The memory limitation may be a problem to people who have to have a TON of apps installed... I don't use that many and have no issues. Google around, if you can figure out how to root it you might be able to re-enable the ability to move apps to sdcard which Google disabled with ICS.

Some people complain about the camera but it seems ok to me. Yes, my wife's Galaxy S 4 has a better one. But her phone was $680 and mine was $170.

I slapped a $20 32gb sdcard into mine for music and videos and couldn't be happier.

Last thought... you don't HAVE to do prepaid if you don't want to. I called TMO and got added to my wife's plan to make a family plan. Unlimited for $40 a month, no contract? Yeah baby.

Frys = $149.99 + 8.25% tax = $162.36

this deal = $190 + 8.25% tax - $40 (sell refill card) = $165.68

though i called frys and they said they're oos..

and who knows how long itlll take to sell refill card on craigslist, or if t-mobile will even send you one..

I personally really like this phone. Couple it with their $30/month plan. It gets the job done for me. This seems like a solid deal. I paid much more...
