is this shredder much better than the $20-23 ones from new egg (rosewill I think) and staples?

Yes, much better. I ordered a Rosewill and the thing died after 1 use. This one has always been $49.99, this is the lowest it has dropped, ever.

I purchased mine on the 30th of last month and it arrived yesterday. After seeing this post I contacted Amazon and they credited me the difference in cost :-)

So thank you OP for saving me $10.50

Also I have only tried it for one day but it works pretty good (though a bit noisy) and it feels like its very well built.

I have the $24 6 sheet shredder from walmart for over a year and it shreds everything with no problems so I would say the extra $16 is a waste for this one.

Rosewill makes two quality levels of products.

"Passable" and "Total Crap", most of it leaning towards crap.

Nothing they make qualifies as good quality. I've had to use hot glue to get brand new Rosewill computer cases to work. I've purchased Rosewill water kettle that made all the water smell of metal. I've purchased multiple Rosewill card readers, each of which failed after about a week. Rosewill wireless adapters with the most random, intermittent failures. The only Rosewill products I've ever purchased that I'd actually recommend are their dead-simple hard drive enclosures. Even those use non-standard (no replacement possible) fans that crap out after about a year.

I'm completely done with Roswill products. The sad part is that Rosewill is Newegg's "Amazon Basics" brand. Rosewill is wholly owned by Newegg, and directly reflects Newegg's quality aspirations.

I've never bought anything with the Amazon Basics brand name that wasn't at least "good" quality. Some of it is great quality.

I have to wonder how much longer Newegg can holdout against the Amazon juggernaut. They can rarely beat Amazon anywhere, not even in putting their name on random Chinese crap.

Unless you shred a lot of pages per session, or want to shred junk mail, envelope and all without having to even open(which are often 8-12 pages thick), which a six page shredder would choke on or burn out.

Never had a problem it eats up dvd's paper clips and all the junk mail I've thrown at it and to save $16 I have no problem using the extra 5 seconds to make sure I'm not feeding it to much

I'd go with Amazon Basics over Roswill any day...another benefit of amazon basics is that most items come with an amazon limited one year warranty. I've never had a negative experience with amazon 30-day returns and I'm sure that their warranty service will be similarly pain free...

I've been eyeing this for a few weeks now and just decided to look this shredder up on YouTube after seeing this thread. This thing is LOUD. Watch here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KhkNCRuNgZA.

With that said... I will probably still pick it up. Thanks, OP!

Thanks OP I have been looking for one at a decent price. We have the 6 sheet one from Walmart and it has completely burned out.

This shredder has been working well for me for the past 4 months. Believe it or not it is quieter than my previous one (however not nearly as quiet as some other shredders I've used). Def worth it at this price.

I bought this in November or December during the holiday lightning deals for $25. I've never owned a shredder before this one but we've been very happy with it, use it almost daily and haven't had any issues.
