the lack of insulation on the top can be solved with a thin piece of disposable styrofoam insulation cut to size which will take up interior volume, or you can do this:

verify how many cavities there are in the lid - is it just 1 single hollow piece? let's just presume the answer is yes.

drill a small hole on the bottom inside of the lid. go to home depot and buy that insulation in a can stuff . slip the straw into the hole so the straw is facing towards one of the short ends of the lid and orient the lid so that gravity will be working with you. spray away until you have completely filled up the lid. plug the hole with a rubber plug from home depot.

you could also use one of those small handheld recip saws saw and carefully cut out the bottom inside half without getting to close to the curved edges, go to home depot and buy disposable styrofoam for a few bucks and cut to size for LxWxH. use adhesive to attach styrofoam to inside of lid. re-attach rectangular lid to styrofoam with adhesive. it'll look like crap but at least you have your insulation

or you can just lay an insulated blanket over the top of the cooler
I wonder if the manufacturer took into account that cold sinks and heat rises and that is why they did not insulate the lid?

Load the cooler with stuff, put the freezer packs, or ice on top, and close the lid. It should stay cold as long as the manufacturer indicates. If it doesn't, return for refund, as that would be false advertisement.

Can you send a link to see a non-walmart version for the same cooler? Thx
Sorry, I don't have a link for that. I read in multiple places while researching this cooler that this version was made specifically for Walmart - and they skimped on the quality to meet the lower prices. It was reported that the same version at another store (Target, Home Depot, etc) did have insulation in the top. But I didn't go to those places.

I did go to Costco. They didn't have this exact model, but a different Coleman Extreme. And it was bigger, had an insulated top, also a drain actually on the floor of the cooler, bigger wheels and a locking handle. Also cost $40, but the quality difference was obvious.

I think I bought Igloo 60 QT wheeled cooler - $27.88 for 24.XX something because I dumped Costco one of 40$ with decent build in favor of this. We used it for one trip and it paid off.

I have had the 60qt igloo cube for five years and it is still a beast. I just ordered the 50qt xtreme coleman for something a bit smaller. Hopefully it lives up to the igloo's standards. But hell for $25 you can't beat it.
Kinda torn between these two models myself. Now that you have both, can you provide me with an objective opinion on these two?

I haven't received it yet. I picked free site to store shipping so it takes a bit longer to get.

i have a "regular" igloo and and an "xtreme" coleman. i use the xtreme one all the time now and the regular one just sits on the shelf. the xtreme keeps ice for 1-2 longer than the regular cooler. so it save money since u buy less ice over time.

Bought one and apparently walmart "lost" it at the store. So money returned. Oh well. Guess it's not meant to be. Stupid walmart.

The best part was they sent me a tracking # and FEDEX had actually delivered it. I guess they probably put it out on the floor and were too lazy to go look for it. So they just said it was lost.

Not the first time Walmart has canceled an order for no particular reason. Never buy anything you absolutely need from Walmart.

I picked mine up from Walmart, got "thank you for pick up" e-mail and then another e-mail that there is a problem locating it.

Hoping they return the money... ha ha ha
