Calling all you campers/hikers/adventurers on the cheap Smilie

I wanted to wait to post this until I had actually received the pack so that I could check on the quality of the Stargazer. I just picked it up and although its no Arcteryx, turns out pretty darn good for ~$35 after tax!

If you're looking for an internal frame pack with 55L capacity and decent features, but don't want to shell out $100+ dollars, this is the one for you. It is $33.24 at Walmart in "Tomato Puree" only (Brilliant Blue is $49.20). This pack was selling at Walmart for $60 recently and just last week it was $44 for the Tomato Puree color and $62 for Brilliant Blue. This is as low as it has been:

Note that the red is brighter than Walmart's picture. It isn't a dark/dull red like in the picture, but a vibrant, red red like you're used to thinking of when hearing the word "red." Big Grin Oh and the pack weighs a little under 3 lbs. which is fantastic for a pack of that capacity. Great for you ultralight hikers who are going on longer trips and need to bring a ton of food when you have no cache.

Additionally, they are offering the Outdoor Products Rapids 8.0 (Dry Vault) waterproof backpack with 40L capacity for $18.24 in color "Navy Ship." I haven't checked the quality on this since its still being shipped, but I picked it up in black for $19 a couple days ago ($23 now) and it looked like a good deal, going for $40 elsewhere:

Anyway, this is a good deal and can get you into camping or hiking nice and cheap. For reference, I'm 6' 200 lbs. and the Stargazer fits me fine. I figure it will fit people from 5'7" to 6'3" depending on body build. Can't say on the Rapids/Dry Vault since I haven't received it yet but I figure its about the same.

Good find OP! I passed up a similar deal early this year, since I had no idea what I wanted in a hiking backpack. Went to REI to do some research and received some serious sticker shock. Since, these products will be for our first foray in to multi-day hiking I'd rather not over-invest. Later if it turns out we love mult-day hikes, I'll look into getting better/pricier gear.

My experience with Outdoor Products pack is very good for the prices. Especially when walmart invariably marks them down in price. This size pack is good for a light backpacker for a couple days. It looks like it has a bottom pocket but I don't know if it's big enough for a sleeping bag. If it is, that's great.

One should be aware with these packs though. They aren't water proof. And this one doesn't say water resistant (though I think it probably is). Even if it is, the seems and zippers will leak. I wouldn't trust water proofing it. I would get a rain cover for the pack.
