Pretty rare to see a road bicycle with this level of component group for a price this low. A SRAM Rival group alone would run you pretty close to the cost of this whole bike. Shimano 105 pedals? Better bikes NEVER come with pedals. These alone are worth $70!

Only 48, 51, and 60 cm sizes left. The 51 should be good for someone as tall as 5'8" if you want a pretty racy riding position. The 60 is for really tall people. The 48 would be good for many women.

Famous Maker Road Bike with Rival

Nashbar is all about the hookup. It's just what we do; and there's no better example than the Famous Maker Road Bike with Rival. First of all, check the specs--we're talking no-kidding quality with a hydroformed 6061 T6 aluminum frame and carbon fork with Sram Rival Crankset, front and rear derailleurs, levers, and shifters...that alone makes the deal. But how about this: we sweeten it even more by finishing the bike out with excellent components all the way down to the ground...we've even included a pair of Shimano 105 pedals just so you know we're out of our minds.

6061-T6 hydroformed aluminum frame has the geometry and ride feel of a classic Italian racing machine--laterally stiff bottom bracket, 73 degree head tube and seat tube and tapered seat stays to soften the ride
SRAM Rival 10-speed drivetrain delivers smooth shifting and sheds weight off your bike
Alex ALX270 wheels are tough enough for rough roads and light enough for long rides
Carbon fiber fork is tapered to give you a stable and responsive ride, while smoothing out road vibrations to save your palms and forearms

listening to bike arguments is twice as interesting as computer component arguments. I have so much to learn!
Imagine if we had a deal about bike mounted computers.

Wait for a 20% coupon in the next couple of days to bring the price even lower. I have been stalking Nashbar to see if they can have their CF Tiagra in sooner than expected. The new Ultegra is out, so current prices will go down soon and you can upgrade T to U on the "cheap"

Their coupon or hot deal is the 1st slide of their rotating banner on their homepage. You don't need to check the emails, it is the same thing. Same applies for performancebike.com as well. Just check their homepage each morning if you are waiting to pull the trigger on a purchase.

The most useful and common ones for me have been 20% off or free shipping on orders over $50. The offers can't be combined.

hey you seem like pro in bike! if you don't mind me asking, what do you think of this bike 2003 fuji tean x-fusion. read some review and didn't rly find negative thing. are these components good for the value?

Fuji makes good bikes, and Ultegra is one of Shimano's best group sets (Dura-Ace is the only line that's better, so this would have been second best at the time). I'd say it's a very nice bike. For an aluminum frame, it seems quite light. Aluminum will typically ride harsher than a carbon frame (though this bike does have a carbon fork to soak up some of the bumps).

I couldn't comment on how great a deal it is because I don't know the condition of the bike. He says there's some scratches, so it depends. If it's true that he only rode it 15 miles, it should be pretty much new. But as far as the components go, I think that bike would serve you quite well.

How does this bike come shipped? Is it just a box and we need to assemble it? Is assembly pretty straight forward?

That bike is ancient. A lot of age and I find it hard to believe it has only 15 miles on it yet has scratches? An Ultegra set that old is more likely equivalent to something less like a current Shimano 105 groupset. Yesterday's top-end groupsets become today's second-best - but 10 years is way past yesterday. $750 is probably too much for that Fuji now - retail on it was probably around $2300 new, before carbon fiber began to dominate that price range. $750 price would have been fine 5-6 years ago perhaps.

You should be able to pick up a relatively newer Specialized Allez or Cannondale CAAD 8 with 105 or Rival - that will serve you better for that price. Just make sure the bike fits!

I ride a $$$$ carbon bike I built from the frame up and I would happily ride an alum Allez or CAAD with 105/Rival any day.

Noticed this Allez with Apex [craigslist.org] at $850. I would take issue with the Apex groupset but a novice shouldn't. Haggle to $550. The Allez frames are very good. If you end up liking it there is nothing stopping you from upgrading to a Rival or Force groupset later.

Depending on precisely where you are in NY you may not want to a bike that attracts too much attention, however. That's how some of those bikes show up on CL to begin with...

Really conflicted between ordering this one versus something on Craigslist e.g. the following bike can be had for around $700:

http://chicago.craigslist.org/chc...68441.html

Any opinions on which way should I go?

Thanks!

If you are looking for the most bang for your buck, you might also want to consider ordering a Carbon bike from China through Ebay. I can't vouch for it personally but it seems plenty of people are happy with that they got. You can find a ton of info on this topic here: http://forums.roadbikereview.com/...6-148.html

Thanks. I'll skip the craig's list one and probably go with this Nashbar one. Is the "famous maker" some debranded major brand like Trek, Fuji etc.? Also, I'm 5'11" ... Will 51cm work? Thanks ... this has been a really informative thread.
