would this be good for a gaming monitor? or can anyone recommend one?
depends on what video card you have what games you want to play and budget

Do these monitors have sound? If not then I see no reason for HDMI. DVI and hdmi are essentially the same besides the sound thing and the shape of the connectors. Also all video cards have DVI ports but not all have hdmi from all the video cards I have looked at.
This monitor doesn't appear to have built in speakers but trust me the sound quality stinks anyways. However it does have Headphone out which is perfect for plugging in some 3.5mm speakers. That's what I do with my Asus VE228H with its HDMI.

I have both the dell U2412M and this monitor

I think they are about the same, it's almost like Asus tried to make a dell and dell tried to make an Asus.

One thing I do like about the dell is the speaker power jack and customized powered speaker that attach on to the monitor. It's pretty slick plus one less cable. It's not a super great speaker but it's much better than the laptop it's hooked up to.

HDMI vs DVI? There really is not much of a difference as there are no speakers and the signals are the same. If you only have HDMI out amazon will sell you a $6 cable with DVI on one end and HDMI on the other. That said I have had some problems with odd resolutions and HDMI while DVI will work fine with the same card. I don't know if that is a driver thing or an HDMI thing.

It was obvious that everyone tries to copy Dell.

For those who are buying, just make sure you find packing slip, or request an invoice from Amazon. I mailed a copy of my order confirmation as proof and of course ASUS denied me. (There was no packing slip since Amazon simply slapped a shipping label on the OEM box and shipped it.

We'll guess what, $20 bucks is $20! Ended up throwing a fit with Amazon about the rebate, expressing my outrage with the rebate process. Amazon credited me $20 in the end.

That's why I hate rebates.

Ohh yeah, I love the monitor. The extra 180 lines do help me. :-P

I own this monitor and a TN based Dell 24 inch 1920x1200 resolution panel.

Colors, blacks, and whites positively pop on this Asus vs. the Dell, and I game on it and personally don't notice any lag. Everything looks great. Photo editing is a lot more fun on my new Asus panel as well.

I actually had to turn the brightness down so it wasn't quite so drastically different from my Dell panel. As far as IPS based panels go, this Asus is pretty fast, lag wise, and Display Port - the connection my video card happens to have - seems to work fine and not delay any transfer of information at all. I haven't used the USB ports at all ... but I'm sure they work fine, lol.

Overall, I like this monitor a lot. The AG coating is just about perfect for what I would want - I see little to no glare from lights or windows, but colors and contrast still pop.

When I plugged this in it felt like everything just came alive, compared to my TN panels. I know it's "just" E-IPS, but it's still excellent for the money, and a substantial cut above any TN based panel you might have in your home, without super slow latency ratings or an S-IPS price tag.

I just bought the Dell U2412M refurb from the earlier thread. For me the total price difference would be $50. The Asus would be new, have USB 3.0 ports, and 1:1 scaling for consoles. I think I'm gonna keep the Dell since the USB 3.0 doesn't really matter to me and I won't be hooking up a console. I'd take the $50 saving for the refurb since I hate doing rebates.

The following read appears to differ and is the best source I've found discussing the matter in detail:

http://www.candlepowerforums.com/...g-Revealed

As noted on the first page, the rebate is for June, not July. Before I call, as anybody else called/chatted about this with Amazon?

Anyone got a good review on this vs http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00...mdsc?dsc=1

I want it but trying to saving money.
If you want to risk it, and don't mind compromising to a 23", this might be an option: http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-li...790&sr=8-1

It's an Amazon warehouse deal, but this monitor is the next revision up from the PA(pro art) 23" panel, and has fixed some issues that panel had. If you can get a non defective monitor for $147, this would be a wonderful monitor.
