From what I have read, this is a fantastic monitor, but I ended up choosing this and think this is a better option for the price: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/...UTF8&psc=1

I just ordered a 27" Dell Ultrasharp to replace my much older 24" Ultrasharp from years ago. However, looking at this monitor, I truly like to see all the connectivity options. That's tremendous to me - getting a port for just about every type of display, as well as the USB 3.0 hub.

If I were in the market for a 24", I would definitely consider this one based on that, as well as the opinions of my fellow Slickdeal forum members.

HDMI is replacing DVI on all monitors, regardless of sound. It's smaller and capable of carrying data, sound. It's the new standard.
For no apparent reason. But it is much beloved on Slick Deals.

This monitor uses PWM dimming which will permanently damage the rods and cones in your eyes and damage you nervous system.
Let me rewrite that for you:

"This monitor uses PWM dimming, as does almost every other LED laptop, monitor, and tablet on the market. Some dude on the internet claims PWM dimming will permanently damage the rods and cones in your eyes and damage you nervous system but even though he posts on every LED monitor thread on SD there's really nothing to back up that claim."

If you are concerned about PWM dimming on the asus run it at 100% brightness and use an app (I use a program that sits in my systray called "Nec-Mitsubishi Brightness controller") or your drivers to dim the screen. You'll get a dim screen without PWM dimming's flickering.

Dell UltraSharp U2412M 24" LED LCD Monitor - 16:10 - 8 ms

Any opinions? It's $259. The ASUS is showing up at $274 now. I need a good monitor of this size.

There are some recent/consistent bad reviews about flickering on newegg. Does this not affect users who bought it from amazon?

would this be good for a gaming monitor? or can anyone recommend one?
The less expensive BenQ 24" A-MVA panel has much more contrast so it is better for immersion in games and films. IPS' main claim to fame is a wider off-angle viewing range. Contrast trumps that for most people.

The BenQ has been as low as $150.

The model is GW2450HM as far as I recall.

I'm about to pull the trigger on this. There are more photographers (LR and PS users) that have reviewed this monitor over the Dell U2412m. Also, since i'll be connecting my laptop (Envy 17t-3200) to this, the USB 3.0 ports will be useful (portable drives, wacom tablet etc). That way i don't have to connect my USBs on the laptop (just one). This will enable me to just unplug one cable from on my laptop if i ever need to bring it with me. HDMI is a nice feature as well although i would probably use display port.

I have this monitor. It is great except one flaw. Every so often it will blink off for a second or two. Sometimes it will flash twice. It is very random and doesn't happen enough to bug me. Maybe twice or three times a week. Other people have this issue too so its not isolated. Some get it worse and have to RMA the screen. It maybe related to using the HDMI input. I've really not cared enough to test the other inputs. My only other gripe is minor ghosting. Most noticeable when scroll black on white text. It is not noticeable in video playback or games. It is kind of expected with an IPS panel though.
