Some users are saying the white version is "better" than the "black" one..is that right? what makes it better?
At first I took it as a bad joke but I've seen several users looking for the white one even if the black was cheaper

Would this be the same for Comcast / Xfinity? I currently lease a rca dhg535-2 from them and have triple play, so I can replace that with this and still have my digital phone service work? It's on the approved devices list http://mydeviceinfo.comcast.net/ Just confused about the triple play.
As stated on the web page, this will NOT work with a triple play account:

"There is no phone jack- it is not a VoIP modem."

People have been saying that black ones are meant for ISP rentals, so they don't come with a warranty, whereas the white ones are the retail versions that comes with the 1 year warranty. However, there have been conflicted reports with people buying black ones in retail B&M stores. Others have also said the black ones have more issues than the whites ones and certain ISP don't update the firmware the same. I personally think it's just rumors or a misinformed person and the color doesn't matter. I've had a black SB6121 from TWC for the last year and it's worked perfectly. They upped the modem rental free again though, so I finally decided to just buy my own and this white version was the cheapest SB6141 at the time.

Besides, you shouldn't be using comcast triple play, you should get an OOMA device and drop the comcast phone line. OOMA will work with this modem. Search slickdeals for OOMA.

Ooma is excellent and will work with any internet provider as long as you do not have a high latency connection (some DSL and Sattelite).

Thanks for the answer. I didn't realize the "digital phone" was actually VoIP. I'm much more net savvy than cable or phone, lol. So I have to keep renting our modem I guess. But I had a feeling there was a reason I had not looked at these before.

If it was up to me I wouldn't have the phone line at all. But I appreciate the info, will check it out. Without triple play, internet goes very high, and others in household rely on the dig cable for ethnic channels as well as as Starz & Encore, etc.

(sorry didn't mean to double post, don't remember if I can delete or not...)

Not sure what you are referring as a VoIP modem but I have Ooma VoIP service with this very modem and works great.

I have this on Comcast and I am pretty sure I had some weird issues with this versus my 6121. My connection would go in and out, etc. I want to say I heard that the boot file isn't there because this might not be supported in your area yet.

The only advantage to having this now isn't really evident yet. This bonds 8 channels as opposed to the 6121 that only bonds 4 channels. 4 channels goes up to 150mbps, up to 8 channels will give you up to 300mbps, but who the hell offers 300mbps service anyway?

No, this is for cable based operators such as Comcast, Time Warner, etc. Verizon FiOS is optical and digital and pretty much better than the crappy service I have with Comcrap.

also i'm on comcast $39.99 plan 30mbps with docsis 2.0, wondering if it will go faster with this modem?
Yes, I forget the limit of DOCSIS 2.0, but with this, you will definitely get much better speeds.
