Newegg has the MOTOROLA SB6141 SURFboard DOCSIS 3.0 Cable Modem [newegg.com] on sale for $86.99 (you must checkout to see the price).

Use coupon code WALLET to take $15 off. The only catch is that you must pay using Google Wallet which means you have to buy it through the mobile website or app.

Shipping is free (Super Eggsaver). It's ShopRunner eligible but unfortunately you can't use that from the mobile site/app.

Final price: $71.99

This is around the same price as past FP deals that required a rebate.

Time Warner RR charges me $4 a month for theirs. can I use this as a replacement?

Does this modem have all I need for internet service from TWC?

What makes it better than cheaper modems/routers? Do I need a modem and a router, are the the same thing?

Lots of questions I know, but I'll be living on my own in a month and need to figure out what our household will need.
This is a phenomenal modem. I've had it for over 6 months now since time warner announced the plan to charge rental fees. I've had consistent and fast speeds (actually better sometimes than the time warner leased modem).

What speed tier are you on? Your older SB5101 is capable of Powerboost, which will let you temporarily go above your speed tier.

The SB6141 however is a DOCSIS 3.0 modem, so it can use channel bonding. I get much more consistent speeds now, especially at night since my modem is using four downstream channels instead of one.

There are a lot of posts here regarding the pros and cons of DOCSIS 3.0 vs 2.0

I got TWC RR standard internet.

this is a good deal for the white retail version with a motorola warranty, but if you want it a bit cheaper check out the deal from advanced stream for $50 [advancedstream.com]

it only comes with a 30 day warranty, but you can get a square trade warranty for $11 and you still come out ahead by ~$10
Exactly, I bought this from Advanced Stream and it came in a couple days. It was completely brand new with seal in tact and everything. It's been working out superbly so far. No problems. The only difference is that mine is black but who cares, it's a modem! It came out to be $60 after shipping.

Great modem. Infinitely better than the ubee crap that Time Warner is giving out now.

Had tons of issues with the ubee MTA - dropped connections 4 or 5 times a day, and came configured as a gateway modem instead of a "regular" modem. Royally screwed up accessing my home servers from the outside world.

Bought the SB6141, acts as a REAL modem (not a gateway), no dropped connections in over a month, and consistent down/up speeds (above my tier).

Highly recommended.

So these are black ones not the white retail version. I also see that it runs up to $60 not $56. Am i missing something?

My bad guys. It is $60 after shipping. Like I said, I bought it 2 weeks ago so I just dropped a number off the top of my head.

credit to nortotron at FW -- staples.com has it for $79.99 - $10 IS - $10 coupon (12006) = $59.99 for new with warranty and free shipping.

http://www.staples.com/Motorola-S...uct_805588

For me, after taxes it came out to $64.49 and if you buy with amex, you'll get the +1 yr extended warranty so that's 2 yrs total.

You are looking at the older model, sb6121, which is still a better deal off newegg using the same promo code WALLET.
