I am trying to find a mobile broadband to connect my laptop on the field. I am currently on ATT plan with unlimited data - and in order to get teethering enabled on my nokia 920 i need to pay them extra and surrender my unlimited data. which does not sound good.
Can someone suggest some mobile broadband service? - I do not have a heavy use of it - i am guessing i will be between 300-500 MB per month
I ran into this situation a while back and used a spare smartphone(Galaxy Gio S-5660) paired with a T-Mobile prepaid SIM on the daily rate($2/day for unlimited talk/text/2G data).I topped up with $100 to keep the SIM active for a year. Over the past 3 months it has cost me $42. SIM was free at the store. Be sure to turn off second phone when not in use as they charge for the day starting from 12 am to 11:59pm.
Service in Hawaii and west coast of California were as good as my ATT service.
If you must purchase hardware, maybe FreedomPop is an option although I hear the billing practices are less than ideal.
Have you checked your usage? People at my company went ballistic when AT&T made us switch to 4GB rather than unlimited plans, but then we checked the stats... out of ~500 users, ONE GUY was using more than 4GB a month, and 80% of the rest were under 500MB.
Unless you're actually going beyond 4GB/mo, you might be better off just turning on the tethering.
