I suggest anyone considering this spend at least an hour in the gym during peak hours before signing up for a pre-paid membership from this place. Just a friendly suggestion.

It's not lifetime fitness or some of the other 'real' gyms. But it has a niche
They would have to pay me to walk into that place. Why are gyms increasingly not allowing deadlifting?!

I'll bite: what kind of stuff goes on at this suburban chain gym during peak hours that I desperately need to know about before agreeing to drop eight bucks a month?
Torture? Slavery? Someone forgets to wipe down the equipment?
This is a very good deal. I work out from home, but even having this as a back up to do some cardio is worthwhile.

Their policies are odd. I understand you don't want people dropping wieghts left and right, but certain excercises require it. I was pressing 50lb dumbbells, lowered them, to my waist, and dropped them softly from there... Lights flashed, and someone came over to talk to me. It was comical, and he suggested I use a wieght that I could put down without dropping. That was the beginning of the end for me as far as my membership there went.
The few that I have been through in my travels always are loded with cardio equipment, which never seems beat up. They have been clean, and have a lot of equipment. So they have their pluses.
I got in on this in august, I wonder if I can extend it for another year.
I used a prepaid card, just because I did not trust them not to tack on fees or renew at a regular rate.
Oh, you are indeed correct! So much for their "no contract" nonsense. As far as the facility goes, it's fine for someone who wants a place to go to use their equipment and leave. As someone else suggested, go at peak hours to see just how crowded it really is.

If you go at 5am, you will have no problems at all. If you are serious about working out, don't judge the crowds for the 1st couple of weeks in January. All of the New year resolution people will be there.
I have learned from experience that, that dies off around the 3rd week in January!
Anyone know if this offer works for existing members?

$8-10 a month for a decently equipped gym is significantly below market price in many cities. It's a good idea to check them out during peak hours to see how crowded it gets.

Can't drop dumbbells? Sounds like physical rehab, not a gym.
I was only suggesting to take a look at the gym for an hour or so during peak hours to see if it was for you. I didn't actually badmouth the gym or say this was a bad deal. Sorry if you misunderstood the intent of my post.
This is a awesome deal, and a great gym. I have been a member for 6 months and love it. I left Lifetime, Mountainside Fitness, and Snap Fitness because the over charge and who needs the loud annoying music (90% use headphones anyway), and the aroebic classes or the lunks that drop weights. You don't need to drop weights, there are enough exercises to get the same benefit without being a lunk.

Lunk alarms, pizza parties, restricting exercises
The most retarded concept in a gym. Anyone feel intimidated or doesn't like that you're making a little noise while lifting? Lunk alarm goes off. How does that help anyone? You're not pushing yourself if you don't let out a little grunt here and there. Seriously, they say don't judge, but are the first to judge people who actually try to improve themselves more than others.
Pizza parties. Why oh why would you have pizza at a gym of all places. Those two do not go together at all.
Then, why restrict you on what types of exercises you can do? Deadlifting is one of the primary exercises everyone should do. There is no reason to restrict it beyond the fact that sometimes people get a little louder doing it. It's a gym. Weightlifting can get out sometimes.
