Cheapeast way to ship a LED Tv to india

hi ,

i live here in seattle[usa] and would like to ship a 40' or 46' led tv to india [hyderabad] .


does anyone have any experience on this ? or any suggestions ?


ps: i dont know if i can ask these kinda questions in this thread , if this is wrong place please show me the right one .

I would think usps.com would be the 'cheapest' way to do this - you can find out the cost/restrictions at this LINK [usps.com]

But you can also get online quotes from FedEx [fedex.com] and UPS [ups.com]

I would suggest to send it with someone as luggage. Couple of my friends have done it. It could be checked in as extra baggage and is there when you land.

If you mail it out, you would for sure have to fill a customs form which might charge you or receiver for goods.

Last thing to keep in mind is the voltage and video format. Everyone that took the TV from here had to go through the hassle of finding a transformer for power. Secondly India runs on PAL and US on NTSC. Tata HD is the only one that I can think of that would give you the option to choose NTSC.

Keep these in mind before sending a TV.

additionally, if some thing goes wrong, India service centers will not touch your TV, so using it makes sure that it does not have a inherent defect.


iIF you fedex / ups you will pay hefty duty, calculated on India price and not the price you paid. Send it with a friend after using for 5-6 months, so that you can claim used house hold items and negotiate for a cheaper duty. if it is brand new, then duty is much less negotiable.

I know this isn't the answer to what you're looking for; but I'd think buying a new TV in India might come out to be cheaper than sending out the one from here to India.
Not only is the TV heavy, but because of its size, they will charge you extra for it.
Anyway, from my experience from sending things to Asia, UPS was the most expensive, and FedEx and USPS both had its ups and downs. For small packets or documents, USPS was way cheaper with its flat rate shipping; however, for bigger shipments, it came out that the FedEx was cheaper. I've never sent anything as big as a TV though.
