is your long term disability really free? that seems really odd to me. at your age the cost is low but i doubt it is something you'll keep if you leave.
it is something worth looking at once you get closer to 30. the rates for 20-29 are pretty even.
health savings account you use if you have special insruance plans. the high dedutible onesa llow you to sock money away into it (pre-tax dollars). you can actually use it as a retirement tool too.
Yeah, the LTD is free.
If you have no family obligations then no need to guy the extra life insurance. Keep in mind that the extra insurance policy is yours and can be taken with you. I bought an extra policy 20 years ago from an old company and buying that policy now would cost me twice as much now.
Many FSA accounts come with a debit card so that the funds are purchased with that card and you don't have to worry about submitting documents. I wanted points so I would use my credit card and fax in the documents as soon as I got the expense. Best of both worlds.
Keep in mind that the money doesn't have to be in the account to spend it. So if you need glasses you can use the future money now. I was given a layoff notice with one week and spent that week spending all the money that I had elected. In that case the company has to make up the difference. The theory is that the people that "lose it" are equal to the people who "use it" but not your problem.
As for the 401k at least put in the 5% to get all the match money. Don't leave any money on the table.
Not mentioned but a little bit of information. If you are a weekend warrior or extreme sport fanatic look into Aflac insurance. It's not insurance for health care but for accident care. I broke a toe and although I had no out of pocket expenses Aflac reimbursed me $245. They also gave me cash after I was involved in a car accident.
Thanks. Will keep the AFLAC insurance in mind.
