I got this in Oregon for $720 a few months ago with military discount and some other promotion. Add in my states $600 tax credit and $300 federal tax credit, and I made some $$!

i got one of these in TX, be aware of the installation charges if you go through lowes. The quoted install price was significantly lower and it ended up costing me more for the installation than the actual unit itself (AR's).

Darn, too bad it's electric. For Nor CA folks this is a sweet deal as PG&E rebate for this unit is $500!

Wow, that is an amazing price. I am showing 2 AEP Ohio rebates, one for 300 and one for 50.

Edit: combine with 10% discount on gift cards from cardpool for even more savings. So tempted to buy this and throw it in storage at this price.

Good article on the topic: http://www.greenbuildingadvisor.c...s-come-age

Sounds like you are better off using natural gas if it's available.

Also the author recommending bigger units with 65 or 80 gallon tanks, if you have more than a couple people in the house, because, with high demand the heat pump can't keep up and it goes into normal resistive heating mode to keep up. A bigger tank helps smooth out the peaks in demand and keep it operating in heat pump mode, so contrary to gas units, with heat pumps, bigger tanks can actually cost less to operate.

Unless you needed to redo or additional piping work done, you could had attempted the task yourself and if necessary use a professional later in the day or the following day. Water heaters reviews and community Q&A have many successful novices' experience.

Doesn't bother me. Lowe's is excellent on warranties.

I had a Whirlpool 10 year water heater develop a small leak with a few months left on the warranty. I called Whirlpool, they gave me a return authorization code. I took the water heater to lowe's, gave them the code. They gave me a brand new water heater and I got another 10 year warranty with it.
