Last time I saw these go for was around $550+ tax so $495+tax sounded just right to burn my gift card.

Not much. CPU benchmark was around 9300 vs 9700 or something like that. So around 5-7% better.

Silly question I know, but would I be able to swap out the graphics card easily if I wanted to upgrade the 640 to like a 660?

This sounds like a great deal, BUT:

Does windows and the software come on CD? My first thought is to buy this and a SSD to put the OS on

Anyone know?

I've been looking for a deal. Now I just need to get a nice pair of monitors and simple speakers for this thing. Any suggestions?

I hope that Ubuntu has good enough drivers for the hardware included.

The case may not have enough room and the power supply definately wont have the power to do so. You will need 1 or 2 6pin power chords running to it, the psu in this dell probably has none. The dell may have 4 pin model connectors, there are adapters that take 2x 4pin molex connectors and make them into 2x 6 pin for graphics cards. My suggestion is start over with a new psu and case. A nice case for beginners is the nzxt source 210, its not the most stylish, but plenty of room and airflow options. Also pick up a 500-600w psu to be safe, 80plus bronze is preferable, seasonic and coraire are great, i'd recomment a cx500 or cx600. This will run you $80-100, the resale value of your case and psu from dell is slim to nothing.
