Please don’t attempt to activate push-to-talk devices, iPhones, Trios, and Blackberries, as these devices are unsupported by our system. Also, this plan is only valid for Sprint “mothership devices,” so please don’t activate any phones from Boost, Virgin Mobile, or any other MVNO. We do not have permission to activate any other company’s devices, and in addition they most likely will not function due to blocking software. Any mistaken activation costs RingPlus money and takes a valuable space away for one of our other members. If too many people try to activate the wrong kind of phone, they may jeopardize this service for all of us.
*We are obligated to and will immediately deactivate any Virgin or Boost devices that find their way onto our network.*

For those who still get the Activation message at the beginning of of reboot only :
To get rid of the activation message (spinning circle), you need to top $0.02 on your account, and then do the method 2 again. It'll take 2-3 mins to reboot and update PRL. Let the hands free circle activation complete with its activation followed by PRL update followed by firmware upgrade and you will see no firmware upgrade, press ok and turn off the phone and when you turn it on next time, you will not see message any more.

There MAY be an option to ship on Kmart.com (depends on where you are):
http://www.kmart.com/shc/s/p_1015...006789001P
Qualifying Orders $59 + SHIP FREE Offer

Alternative: $7.99 at Amazon (for those without a BB or Kmart around in stock) (thanks Rebates2Riches) Edit: dead (third party sellers now for $15+)

Link [amazon.com]

*Now ships within 2-4 weeks*

*Does any one know how to sync contact between this phone and other smart phones or computer?*

How to get the plan ?
Quote from unlvrebels View Post :
1. Buy a phone or use an existing phone
2. Go to this site: https://my.ringplus.net/device_va...quests/new
3. No need to open the cell phone package too (if it is new).
4. Type in the long MEID (DEC) in the site above.
5. If the phone works, you will get a message that says your phone will work with Ring Plus.
6. Now establish an account with a user name and password.
7. Go to Setting; Payment Methods; Add credit card information and save it.
8. Wait till the promo time.
9. During promo time, log into your account, enter MEID (DEC) again, select the FREE BYOSD plan. The free plan will show up only during the promo time.
10. It may take a while to get a cell phone number. Sometime you may get website error due to heavy traffic. Keep trying. Eventually, you will get it. It may take a while to get a number. Just stay on the webpage.
11. Open the cellphone packaging (if it is a new phone).
12. Follow the instructions in the dashboard to activate your phone. There is no time pressure to activate the phone. You got a number with a FREE plan and hence, you can leisurely activate the phone.

Good luck.

RingPlus setup

Method 1) The easiest method is to use "Update PRL". For Kona it is found under Tools > Update Phone > Update PRL. The phone will take 30 seconds to update itself then reboot and you are DONE!

Method 2)
To set it up with ringplus, type ##786# , then type 2 (to reset), and it would prompt you for MSL. MSL is displayed on your ringplus dashboard. After entering MSL the phone would reset and restart with all the new info. No need to edit all the info manually.

Steps to enable or disable mobile data on your Kyocera KONA

You may wish to disable mobile data to improve battery life

From the home screen, press the OK key.
Scroll to Settings and press the OK key.
Scroll to Others and press the OK key.
Scroll to Data Settings and press the OK key.
With Data highlighted, press the OK key.
Scroll to the preferred option and press the OK key.
Press DISABLE to disable or YES to enable mobile data.
You've now enabled or disabled mobile data.

The following link from Ting (another Sprint MVNO) covers a great deal of information regarding Hands Free Activation and PRL updates.

You mean after you top $0.01, correct?

They are talking about the Kyocera Kona.
No, not any topping, just regular free BYOSD plan and yes, it is Kona.

Made a call and on opposite side no one picked phone call(Message box was not setuped), cut 2 min. even if not left any message.

How do you top up 1 cent? I gone into the Ringplus dashboard and try to top up .01,and it tells me that's invalid.

I've also currently got my Kona going through the "hands free activation" screen, and it's just doing that endlessly, waiting to see if that method will work.
Go to Ringplus.com and log in there. You will see the top up option on the right top corner

It's weird. I have 2 Kona. Both of them showed the annoying Activation messages every time when I turned on the phone.
I had to use the $0.01 top-up method to remove the annoying spinning circle.
Anyway, both are working now , and the activation messages were gone.

it won't deactivate your Ringplus. That hands free activation is basically update your PRL which means telling your phone that Ringplus is your default service provider, not VIrgin Mobile any more.

I have the same problem before. Although I see a lot of people saying no need to top up, but I just keep getting that error 67 if I keep waiting for the PRL update. After I top up one cent as you mentioned, no error shows and the update succeed.

I guess RingPlus let some new subscribers use a little bit of free data to update the PRL and complete to activation process.
We, the old subscribers have to top 1 cent for data to update the PRL and get rid of the error 67 as well.

Yes, I can make and receive calls, as well as send and receive SMS.
I do have to include area code, however. It just plays ad after ad for a minute till I give up and hang up if I dial without area code and other end never rings. With area code, it's fine. Weird, because the # I'm calling is the same area code as my RingPlus phone.

Did you try dialing with area code?
I am dialing the complete 10 digits (including area code) still getting the error. Like 480-XXX-XXXX. Not sure what is wrong.

Me too, I need to include area code when I call/text people even when they're in the same area code but when people in my area code can call me without the area code it works fine. However when they text me, they need to include area code! Are others having this issue, too or is it just GnatGoSplat and I?

Also my caller id shows up as somebody else (I'm assuming it's the previous owner of my ringplus number). Does anyone know how to fix that?

can anyone suggest a cheap phone that would be good for my aging parents? I pay for their service through tmobile (contract) - want to buy them new phones to replce their sidekicks (!!).

I can spend up to $50 per phone.... more interested in reliabilty and ease of use than cool features... data not necessary... touchscreen not necessary.

Kona or Samsung Array ! Both are good for old folks.
There are tons of $9.99 Samsung Array at Target.

If your parents are eligible for medicaid/food stamps, they can get a free phone and plan from assurance wireless.
