I know these were on sale for $10 less earlier this year, but this is about as low as these typically go.

Almost unarguably the absolute best value for speaker you can buy. I'm currently sitting on deals building a 5.0 setup so I was excited to see this drop so soon again. Pretty sure this was in response to Best Buy dropping it to the same price. But at Amazon no tax =]

Wouldn't a 3-way speaker be more preferable?
PERSONALLY, I believe so. Adding a mid-range speaker would allow your tweeter to reach higher and your woofer, lower... in an ideal world. That's the way I recall it working.
Having said that, with the (recent) addition of sub-woofers, this issue can become moot. The sub-woofer allows for smaller 'bookshelf' speakers that need only reproduce the mids and the highs.
That is how they can call that 4" speaker, a woofer!

The tweeter will "reach" the same height regardless of it being a 2 or 3 way system.
The woofer will "reach" the same lows regardless also.

With the popularity of home theater, many speaker manufacturers purposely make their bookshelf and even floorstanding speakers deficient when it comes to bass response since they now expect people to also purchase a subwoofer.
This may be ok for listening to "noises", but for musical listening I prefer quality full range speakers without a separate subwoofer. I don't like the localization effect of separating the low bass from the rest of the musical spectrum and the tendency of a lot of subs to sound "boomy" and not as integrated.

As I recalled, in a 3-way, you use different components. You were free to use a tweeter that could reach closer to 20K and not have to address the 'mid-ranges'. Likewise, the woofer; you can reach closer to 20 and not have to reach up to the mids.
Perhaps I recall incorrectly.

I guess speakers are the most subjective electronic component I have ever come across....

Who wants to educate us on banana plugs and all of their differences...?

Which is better, this

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Pro...=TEB17WGPC

OR

http://www.amazon.com/Pioneer-SP-...PDKIKX0DER

assuming price is the same.

Also, which is better:
This:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Pro...6882352028
OR
http://www.amazon.com/Polk-Audio-...olk+Tsi400

Also assuming the price is the same. And why would you choose one over the other.. the thing I HATE about the Triangle is that they don't list the size of their speakers, which is a stupid thing that tells me they are trying to hide something.

The thing I don't like about the

Thanks.

"speakers are the most subjective electronic..." i'm gonna use that line from now on when I argue with friends about speakers.... most people fail to realize that.

Going to go out on a limb here and slam these bookshelves. Finally got a chance to demo them at BB, and what a let down. Even Klipsch's entry level speakers were so much more dynamic, had more punch, more crisp, actually had some bass.

These speakers utilize a joke for a woofer, which is why they can't produce any bass on their own. Really - a paultry 4" driver for bass in a bookshelf measuring 8.5 x 7 x 12.5 inches? 5.25" is the standard for decent sound, as well as male voice reproduction.

If you want a true bookshelf, you don't have to spend much more to get 2x the sound.

There is no comparison between these two. Buy the BIC's, compare side by side, and return the looser. Amazon will take care of you.
Best Buy is not the place to demo speakers.

These speakers are geared more towards home theater use than music and as such are expected to be used with a subwoofer. If you want to get some bass without a subwoofer you would want the towers.

differences on banana plugs? I think they just work or don't...

Banana plugs are mostly just useful if you are switching out your speakers or components regularly or if connections are in a very tight spot.

Thanks
Correct - the C250 is mostly made from junk bin Chrysler parts.

I would definitely like to do some banana plugging with my system..... Not sure what I need to do though.

lol. yea it took me a while. I am a tech numbers person, which clearly states what products are better. Doesn't work like that with speakers.

You can get banana plugs from monoprice [monoprice.com]. Not necessarily the cheapest but very reasonably priced and they occasionally go on sale, usually it will be a deal posted here in SD.

Monoprice has excellent technical support and they have installation video for many of their products on their site. They have video [monoprice.com] for their banana plugs.

For those who have Microcenter store nearby , they had these speakers dirt cheap, unfortunately out of stock in almost all stores. I will pick-up a pair as soon as they go back in-stock in Tustin.

Fantastic find, the floor standing models are progressively priced as well http://www.microcenter.com/produc...ng_Speaker

Might be worth a shot price matching them at Best Buy. YMMV obviously, but could work.

SP-CS21 center speaker is on sale at Fry's for $49.99.
Previous 'generation' but likely would pair up just as well. Note that this thing is pretty big.
