I know these were on sale for $10 less earlier this year, but this is about as low as these typically go.

Almost unarguably the absolute best value for speaker you can buy. I'm currently sitting on deals building a 5.0 setup so I was excited to see this drop so soon again. Pretty sure this was in response to Best Buy dropping it to the same price. But at Amazon no tax =]

Total audio noob here. How essential is a subwoofer if I pair these with a receiver?
VERY.
I started with the 22s; not so good.
Added the center channel and amp; better, but...
Added the subwoofer and all was good in the world.

Just a heads up: these speakers are NOT very sensitive at all. Pairing them with a beefy receiver will get you best results. If you're looking to use a cheaper amp or one of those little class t-amps, it may be worth it to look into some more efficient speakers.

Don't own these, but I've heard them in a few stores. They sound absolutely fantastic for the price.
I'm running them with a Pioneer SX990 from 1970; 28 watts/channel RMS @ 8 ohms (nom).
Go figure!
(I think it has to do with a change in measuring RMS output)
I run the center channel with a 'new' 100 watt amp; same apparent sound output.
(puzzling)

How are these speakers compared to definitive technology 1000 series speakers?

I was going to say that.

Just doing my research tonight for a possible purchase of the Andrew Jones system for 549. http://www.pioneerelectronics.com...r+Speakers

I am wondering if Pioneer is about to update the line. It's been well over a year and they iterated fast between the first and second generation.

Do you have any advice on ferreting out this info? Thanks.
If you can be patient, I would not buy the all in one there.

I picked up these for 90, and the center for 60 a couple weeks ago. Once the flour standing speakers go for 100 each, that puts me at 350 for the 5.0. I will probably then get the BIC F12 12" sub for 180, which is much better than the sub in that package, and I'm still in less than the 549.

Just my $.02

I would not know.
They ARE dirt cheap, though... and work.
Get them from somewhere where you can return them if they don't suit you (Amazon?)

I believe that the 41s would have been a better choice for the front speakers, but I had space constraints.

As has been said, if your going to compare these to speakers that are over 2x the price, you will probably find they are better than some, but there are certainly fantastic options at the 200 price point that these speakers cannot touch. Can you imagine what Andrew Joss could have done with twice the budget for all these? =D

Are these any good with cheap t-amps... I am planning to use these 2 as computer speakers..
Can someone recommend a good 2 channel or 2.1 for PC.
Thanks in advance

yes, get the bs22 bookshelf speakers, they are better than the towers, get the Indeed T amp from ebay about 55.00 delivered, power it with a 5 amp 12 volt DC power supply, and be amazed.

I disagree with the other guy and I'd say very. The 4" mid drivers aren't going to give you much below 100 Hz. That's where I'd set my crossover, and depending on your needs/budget (low if you're buying these) I'd look at a sub from BIC etc. Speaker companies (typically) don't make subs as well as speaker companies, though there are exceptions. In HT, your center channel and sub do most of the work, in music / 2.1 you definitely want a sub with these.

Also, to those on the fence and on a budget, Fry's put the Polk RTi 4 and 6 on sale on BF last year for $99 and $149/pr respectively. These are comparable in size to the 4's but I doubt the tweeter competes with the RTi's silk dome. Disclaimer: I haven't heard these Pioneers and they appear to be an excellent deal on their own.

any sub to go with these under 100?
The Dayton 10" sub goes on sale from time to time and can be had for $99 + free shipping. The 12" is only $30 more though and worth every penny. Here is the link to the 10": http://www.parts-express.com/pe/s...er=300-628

That is bad (for me) that they are 6 ohms. My other 5.0 Klipsch is 8 ohms. I wish I could mix them.
