In the foxconn page, it has drivers for it to download, too.

Havnt built a barebones in years. Can I use a sata 3 drive in this? It says sata 2, are they backwards compatible?

Bought (2) to see if I can get XBMC running on them... If not, I will let my elementary-age kids use them for school-recommended spelling & math games vs. borrowing our laptops... (I have older PS/2 keyboards & mice, memory from a dead laptop, plus spare LCDs & BR burners to round-out the build...)

Am I pushing it with windows 8.1 ? Smilie

In a way when the advertizing came out windows 7 was out, so I would think windows 8.1 would work, 32 bit of course. It even might work better than windows 7 32bit.

Question guys - I just got off of chat with TD regarding this foxconn box and the tech told me that it only fits 2.5 inch HD. A regular hard drive from a desktop won't fit?

From the Foxconn WebPage:
1*5.25” external
1*3.5” external(short)

I'm gonna see how 1 stick of 2gig ram works in this PC, since I will be using win 7/8 in 32 bit, and I can pick up 2 gig stick for 22-25 dollars, and I have sata drives around the house, I hardly ever use dvd's anymore, and I have them laying around too, but will not install one. So for 35 dollars for pc and 22 dollars for 2 gig's, I have 55 dollar PC. Smilie

p.s win 7/8 32 bit will not see 4 gig's, maybe 3gigs or 3 1/2 , so 2 gigs should do ok for casual use.

yes. do you know how 2 slots dimm pin layout? they just share most of the pins with some other control pins. technically from cpu side, there is no much difference between 2x2 and 1x4. I just checked with some website and on other similar mainboard the slot 1 can support 4GB with slot 0 empty.

but anyway take your own risk.
"2x2" has a 128-bit interface and therefore more bandwidth. This is why it's advantageous to have your DIMMs in matched pairs on an Core i3/5/7/Pentium CPU, but doesn't matter on an Atom (from a performance perspective). 4 DIMMs on a single channel ("1x4")is rare today.

Is this powerful enough to use as a Media Server to stream 1080p?
Yes, you really don't need much power to do this. High-end consumer NAS boxes use the same CPU (e.g. Synology DS1513+).

Note: it is not powerful enough to transcode 1080p to another format, such as with Plex media server.
