It obviously depends on the household situation. We could say that we are all spoiled for having clean water from our tap. It's all relative. I have no idea how I'd raise my own kids, but I would hope it would be in some way where they are thankful for everything, and a new ps4 would make the kid feel "spoiled" by such an awesome, expensive gift.
I'm sure your son will love the console, and it would be a day he would remember. Of course, if he's of teenage or higher age, that's a different story
Good points. Yes my son is a teenager. I should add he is handicapped and I don't think I could buy him enough to spoil him, but I get that a game console is a big gift and as a kid I was lucky if I got a bike for Christmas.

Hah, ditto. It was always small things and often times, the stockings were where most of the fun was on Christmas day - getting to open those while waiting forever for the parents to get out of bed. Many of the wrapped "gifts" were simply clothes that had no excitement value. Almost any technology was great - cassette walkmans, later a television for your own bedroom, etc. You can imagine how a household with one television in the living room was a big problem for two adults and 4 kids of similar age pairs (say, 6 6, 9, and 10 - step family joined together). Hell, moving into a house with more than one bathroom and more bedrooms was a dream.
I am completely spoiled by myself now (and Slickdeals), and I thank my parents for getting us to where we are today, where I could simply purchase a $400 item without a second thought, even if I know that the thing may mostly sit unused. The tv it would connect to is even rarely used, also courtesy of SD.
Yes Sony did say they were holding back stock but you have to remember that not all of that is for us. Europe & Australia is releasing on the 29th two weeks after the NA release. Don't you think that most of the stock they're holding back will have to cover them as well. This almost guarantees that supply will be very limited towards Christmas. It might be available a week after release but that's pretty much it till at least after December. It's too small of a window for them to come out with a console for every consumer.
I just chatted with Amazon. I live in MA and on Nov 1 Amazon starts applying sales tax on MA resident orders. The rep from amazon just told me that since I ordered in October, I will not be charged sales tax on my PS4, even though it won't be delivered till mid November. Nice.
You are now connected to Joanna from Amazon.com
Me:Massachusetts sales tax on a preorder
Joanna:Hello, my name is Joanna. I'll be happy to help you.
is this the order#?
Me:yes for the PS4
Me:I live in Massachusetts, and on Nov 1st Amazon will start charging sales tax here. This order won't be delivered till Nov 15th, so will taxes be charged?
Joanna:No Rick your order was place today & it's fix already your order will not be affected.
thank you very much
Joanna:You’re welcome. Was I able to resolve your issue for today?
Me:yes you were, thanks
Wrong: you will be charged tax when its shipped if your info about MA charging tax starts on Nov 1. Amazon charges when it is shipped and it doesn't matter if it says $0.00 for tax. I don't care if the rep says you wont be charged tax, you will.
