I picked up an Asus RT-AC68R Wireless 802.11AC Router at Costco yesterday in the San Diego area for $149.99 + tax.

I don't believe they are on sale, it looks like the everyday price going forward. It's not cheap, but it's better than the current price of $219 on most sites and retail stores.

Item Number is 849590

Item number is 849590 - I also added it to the original post.

As far as firmware- DD-WRT is not fully ready for this router yet- it will probably be a couple more weeks before all of the bugs are worked out. I'm using Kongs Build 23350, and it works without any issues for all of the features that I use. But, YMMV until it's fully tested and released.

Here is a link to the DD-WRT thread and latest firmware:

Hmm...router from Costco. That might be a good idea because I go through them (the wifi radios) pretty fast for some reason. They're always kept nice and cool and all too...

I've seen the Asus routers with R in their model # and they are refurbs remanufactured by Asus. Best buy was selling the RT-N66R for a few bucks cheaper than normal price and didn't tell anyone they are refurbs. The Best Buy web site identified them as refurbs though. Buyer beware!

If you google the R and U the reviews clearly state that R is big box retailers and U is online retailers like Amazon. They go on to say there is absolutelyCool no difference in the two.

Do wireless routers have the standard Costco return policy or the computer 90 day return policy? They are a computer accessory so I'm thinking 90, anyone have experience with this?

Okay, an upgrade is therefore your only logical move. Step into the present and up to at least a N66 and dump the 56 on ebay. Hurry, don't delay.

Agree 110%. Have the AC66U and use Merlin. It is nice to have something that updates bugs and even an actual person you can report them to and usually get fixed pretty quickly.

Looking at the reviews on Newegg it seems that this router is quite a gamble. Some of them seem to work awesome while others barely work at all. Frown
