Amazon.com has Beyerdynamic DT-880 Premium Headphones (600 Ohm) for $220. Shipping is Free. Thanks johnnyz86

Deal Editor's Note: This is a very nice deal on the headphones that usually stay above $280 mark. Of course, you will need an amp to drive these. -iconian

deal [amazon.com]

These are the much nicer sounding 600 ohm version which are normally $350.

Audiophile comparisons and reviews:

Requires a headphone amp.

Now sold out. Ebay buydig apparently also sells them new with warranty for the same price occasionally:

Maybe it's finally time to invest in a amp and some headphones. Anyone have these with the O2+ODAC?

How do these compare to Sennheisers of similar price range? The only high end headphone I've heard is the HD 650, and that's 300 ohm. Any personal experience would be helpful.

Just to speak to beyerdynamic, I have beyer dt770 pro and audiotechnica ath m50s. I never use the m50s. The beyers sound better and you hardly know your wearing them. I've slept with them on.

Anyone who is looking at this, be aware that you need an amp for these. Plugging these I to an iPod, for example, will be quiet and sound terrible

Buydig has been selling these for $220 on ebay for some time now--also with warranty. Still a good price, but not as much savings as one might think. Their listing sold out a few minutes ago, but they frequently relist a few at a time--just keep an eye on them.

Senn 650 has a much darker sound and prominent mid range. DT880's is very sparkly and for some songs, has harsh highs. The preference between the two seems to come down to music genre preference IMO.

Very true, if you don't at least have a cheap DAC like the Fiio E12/E17, you're going to be in for disappointment. On the e12, you'll need to pump the volume up to 75+/100 for proper listening.

Senn HD 650 is not in the price range of DT 880, it's consistently more expensive.
Senn HD 600 is/was closer to DT 880 in price.
But very different sound signature, it's complicated to compare the two, I'd point you to head-Fi.org for further research.
But one thing dt880 are semi open cans, very comfortable and definitely need a good amp to fully justify the purchase. They are amazing when paired with a good amp.
Senn HD 600 dont need an amp as much as DT 880 600 ohm version but would still benefit from an amp, are quite outstanding and are open design not much noise isolation and privacy there, good for home listening.

I'd hate to choose between the two, having both is better, personally I love my DT 880 setup with a Aune T1 DAC+amp.

No personal experience, but I plan on buying the HD 650s as a compliment from posts like these:
