Slickdealers,

My Xfinity Internet cable subscription is due to expire in February. I have been paying $29.99 per month for naked internet. I get about 25-30mbs download and 5-6 mbs upload at that rate.

The new offer is a doubling of the internet pipeline to 50 mbs per month. I would have to agree to "Xfinity pictures", which is some cable set top box, and also have basic digital cable. The contract would be for 1 year. If I do not, my price goes up to $49.99 (or $39.99, I can't remember exactly) per month for my current service.

While I am concerned about the eye of Sauron in my living room, our family essentially watches no cable tv. I believe we could turn off the cable box. Sports are generally over the air and the kids choose what is available from Amazon Prime or our home library.

Is this a good deal? Anyone know of any other deals? I am not wedded to any provider, but only AT&T and Xfinity are players in Atlanta.

Seems like a good deal. I have the same deal as you, but I think when my 6 months is up, my price would go up to around $50 for the same service.

So you're getting 50Mbps internet for $40/month. cable is just bonus. I think the set top box is actually for your cable service, not xfinity pictures. There is no camera in it that I know of.

I'm in Texas and just use Comcast for their internet. When my 6 month deal for performance internet only was up (30/mo), I went for their 6 months of blast plus which was cheaper than regular internet only price for blast or performance (40/month for 50Mbps and basic digital with hbo and stream pix).

Now they are offering me the same thing but 20 dollars more (60/month) with the price not changing for two years (it's not a contract). Once again, the internet only plans (blast and performance) were coming to be about the same price.

just fyi if you got internet through them you've got OTA stations and a small amount of basic cable all you gotta do is hook it up OR you can go to xfinitytv.com to see what you can get. Don't tell anyone I told you this xD

It depends on your market. They started encrypting baltimore over two years ago.

Also, I just (installed friday) signed up for performance internet @ 29.99/mo. for 12 months, no contract.

Don't get into contracts with Comcast. You'll regret it later.

Just cut back from triple play premier to 50 MBps internet and they told me it was cheaper to have cable included than to just have internet. I said fine whatever. Still is around $70 a month.

I gave back all my cable boxes anyway so now I'm thinking I should go get a SiliconDust box to see what I can do with that. Either way my family made the switch to OTA and internet streaming and it's been a great success.

I'm on the $30/mo Performance service too, I chatted with them online and asked about how much it would be to add basic TV. The lowest price they offered me was $70 with basic channels, $90 for Blast and more TV channels. For that much I'll stick to the antenna and streaming online. If I could pay $40 like the OP for faster internet and basic TV I probably would do it, but I don't watch enough TV to pay $70-$90 ($40-$60 more)
