Was just able to check out with the International Carry-On in Blue, but I had it sitting in my cart for an hour or 2.

Warranty info on T-Techs:
Welcome to the world of T-Tech by Tumi. Since our founding in 1975, Tumi has been dedicated to providing our customers with an outstanding ownership experience. Specifically, we make three commitments to our T-Tech customers:

1.You will enjoy using our innovative products that are designed and manufactured to be the best;
2.You will experience world-class, after-sales customer service;
3.For five (5) years after you purchase a T-Tech product from an authorized T-Tech dealer, you will be covered by our Limited Warranty.

The T-Tech warranty extends to the original owner; it is straightforward and comprehensive, and just part of the total T-Tech ownership experience.

First Year of Ownership: Worry Free

With limited exceptions, if your T-Tech product is damaged during the first twelve (12) months you own it - including damage caused by wear and tear, airlines, or other transit damage - Tumi will cover all repair expenses, including shipping costs to and from our repair facility. If we determine that the product is damaged beyond repair, we will replace it. If we determine that a replacement product is not available, we will provide you with a product of comparable value. Damages not covered are damage resulting from abuse, cosmetic damage (such as scratched leather or stained fabrics), and incidental or consequential damages, such as damage to or loss of the contents of a bag, loss of use, loss of time, or similar expenses.

Years Two through Five: You're Covered for Defects

From the second through the fifth years you own your T-Tech product, Tumi will repair any items that are defective in materials or workmanship, (for a nominal processing fee), including any structural defects (such as defective handles, zippers, or locks). For years two through five, however, we will not cover damage resulting from wear and tear that is not the result of defects in materials or workmanship. We also will not cover damage caused by airlines or other transit damage. Damage claims in transit cases should be filed against the carrier. Other damages not covered are damage resulting from abuse, cosmetic damage (such as scratched leather or stained fabrics) and incidental or consequential damages, such as damage to or loss of the contents of a bag, loss of use, loss of time, or similar expenses.

Your only responsibility is to ship your bag to us for repair, postage paid, or take the bag to an authorized T-Tech dealer, who will be happy to process the repair for a nominal processing fee. We will repair the bag quickly and ship it back at no additional cost to you. In those cases where our warranty does not apply, we will promptly provide you with an estimate of any repair and return shipping costs that may be involved.

You Can Expect Years of Quality Service

We do have many customers with older, well-traveled bags that they would like to have refurbished or repaired. For these customers, we offer courteous, responsive service and the highest quality repairs and refurbishment at reasonable cost. Many parts are stocked for up to five years after the style is discontinued. If we are unable to repair the bag, we will suggest alternative options. Please call before sending your product for repair or refurbishment to discuss processing and other fees.

Total Commitment

The bottom line is that at Tumi, we are totally committed to keeping you happy about our products and our service. Once you have had the pleasure of owning and using our products, we hope that they will become your trusted companions for life. You can reach us online, 24 hours a day, seven days a week at www.tumi.com/repair or call 800.781.TUMI (8864) to speak with a customer service representative during normal business hours. (To contact Tumi customer service outside of the US and Canada, please see the list of international centers that follows.)

Proof of Purchase

Please save your store receipt as proof of purchase. This will be needed to demonstrate your warranty coverage. Additionally, this will serve as proof that your purchase was made at an authorized T-Tech retailer. Our Five Year Limited Warranty only applies to products that were purchased from an authorized T-Tech dealer.

This warranty gives you certain rights, and you may also have other rights, which vary from state to state. Some states do not allow the exclusion or limitation of incidental or consequential damages, so the above limitation or exclusion may not apply to you.

Yeah, my old stuff is the ballistic nylon -- great stuff. Good point about the hard & semi soft luggage probably not holding up as well, even if it is Tumi.
I thought hard luggage hold up better than soft luggage? No?

Why are hard luggages are in all the sudden? weird.

Tumi warranty that covers any damage for any reason is good the first year only. Then they have a standard luggage for 2-years. So the bag is covered for only 3-years total. This is far below what some of the other major name brands offer, 10-years is fairly standard. I was surprised considering the cost that Tumi only covers its bags for 3-years.

The warranty I read was on a laptop bag. Perhaps the luggage warranty is longer but either way it is below what appears to be industry standard.

I've looked at a lot of luggage at outlets, and I've seen a few hard luggage cases that had their shells either cracked or shattered--right on the store shelves. Now, I haven't seen this specifically happen to Tumi cases, but I'm sure everything has a breaking point. When it comes to the higher-end tumi alpha luggage, it's usually their ballistic nylon on the outside...

I'm a big fan of tumi products, but their warranty has gone to hell in recent years... Goodbye lifetime warranty.

It weights 10lbs. Most Asian airlines limit carry on to be less than 15lbs. So basically I can only carry 5lbs stuff.

That's incorrect, assuming you're looking at the amazon product weight--that's the recorded weight in their manufacturer shipping boxes--not the base weight of the luggage.

Quote :
Product Dimensions: 24 x 16 x 10 inches; 10.5 pounds
That's for the 22" model--and strangely enough their listed shipping weight is actually 7.8 pounds (with box, etc.). Obviously those dimensions are larger than the luggage itself--those must be the shipping dimensions. The boxes can be several pounds, especially the larger ones...

based on a review for the continental carryon:
Quote :
Quality of this suitcase is excellent and you can't go wrong with Tumi, in my opinion. However, this suitcase is advertised to be 23.8" in height. I placed this directly next to my 22" suitcase that I was replacing and it is noticeably shorter. I then used my tape measure to measure the actual height and it is maybe 22" high if you measure from the floor to the absolute tip of the top handle. There is no way, whatsoever, you could measure this case to be 23.8".
