Thread Details

Staples Item: 805588 [staples.com] is $55.50 on clearance in store only. Use 20% off coupon 38773 [staples.com] to make it $44.40

Even if you already have one, it's a good idea to have a backup. Cable modems do go bad, and if you need one in a hurry they can be expensive.

Got this for $37 AFTER tax today. Here's how:
1) sign up to get $10 off $50 coupon here: www.staples.com/emaildeal
2) get 20% coupon here: www.staples.com/coupons
The coupons WILL stack even though the fine print says you can't combine coupons. Better hurry if you want this deal. This is a clearance item and my local Staples store only had 1 left.

Like I said, the thrift store is where to get these. Also, Goodwill is expensive.
lol do you have an alert set up or something so you can tell everyone that you buy cable modems at thrift stores whenever a deal pops up?

LOL!!!! You make it sound like I've said it in 100 threads. I've said that in this thread and as of a few minutes ago, the other thread.

The only cable modem I've ever seen in a thrift store was one of the older 'shark fin' Motorola ones. I didn't buy it since I didn't have the cable internet at the time.

I have the SBG6580 from Motorola. I got it using my Amazon promo credits/gift card credit. But I'll have to check Staples in my area for this one to see if I can find one to keep as a spare. It's showing up as a low stock clearance item at all of my local Staples stores.

Just in time, I needed a cable modem (moving into new house) and was looking for the SB6141 but this will do perfectly. Picked it up for $39 after tax using 10 off 50 + 15% Qs.

I grabbed one of these earlier from the Dickson City, PA Staples store. The rep who grabbed it for me said they had 3-5 of them in the back. My total was $50 flat out the door with the 15% coupon discount. Not bad.

LOL. Why? Thift stores sell all sorts of stuff. I got all my DSL and cable modems at the thrift stores. They is never a shortage of them.
Only problem is if they have a unpaid bill then I'm told u can not use the modem with the same provider it was on. A lot of places 1 cable company controls most if not all of the area. You down know if they work, missing power supply etc. I see them from time to time
but usually not "current" modems Unless your lucky lol...

I never usually buy the modems/routers unless they have a power supply or are very cheap. If they're $3-4 I'll take a shot in the dark on them. But some of the thrifts here seem to think that modem or router equals gold and price them $15 or more sometimes.

But I did get a nice Linksys WRT54G that they taped together with an old DSL modem that had no power cord for it for $4 total. The DSL modem I'll probably just re-donate as is and keep the router, which I was able to plug in. It lit up as if it was searching for a connection, so I take that as it being in working order. Not to mention the warranty sticker was still intact and in place, so I know nobody screwed with the internal components.

had $25 in rewards, so came to $12 and change after 10 off 50 and 15% coupons. my store had 4 in stock in the back. wonder why they took them off the shelf as i saw a zoom modem on clearance on the shelf. something is fishy.

LIke I said before, I've never had that happen. Also, I've never bought one without the power adapter. So at least I can see that the lights come on.

I've never gotten one that hasn't worked. If it doesn't, take it back. Every thrift store I go to, including goodwill, has a return policy if it doesn't work. You won't get cash back, but they will give you store credit.
