Thread Details

As of March 7th, Tracfone is letting users activate their old iPhone 4 and 4S devices. We've had Tracfone service for years and have been very happy with the value.

Many people over at Howard Forums report having a ton of difficulty getting phones brought over, even when they use some of Tracfone's better CS numbers. On paper this is great news; in practice it can be a headache.

I guess this is why Tracfone's Coverage is so good..

Quote :
The main networks TracFone uses are T-Mobile, AT&T, Verizon in the 50 states and Claro in Puerto Rico. Each TracFone has one of the four as its home network which it uses whenever possible. Where service on the home network is not available TracFones will roam at no extra charge on other networks, including about 30 small regional operators that TracFone has agreements with.

Tracfone Bring Your Own Phone program uses Verizon and does not roam (Verizon prepaid coverage area). the Tracfone branded phones (excluding the Tracfone Android phones) will roam at no extra charges.

Any info on more Android phones they allow? I would like to put a phone made in the past year for this plan but we will see. Fingers crossed for flashing.

I can attest to this being the true.
Long time TracFone customer. Over 6 years. Got a iPhone 4s, made sure it was Verizon, made sure the ESN was compatible via Tracfone.com, made sure it was not iCloud/AppleID locked. Attempted to transfer service online and it failed. Chatted with customer service who told me that I needed to purchase a Wireless Access Code that would be mailed to me via regular mail or that I could call customer service to purchase it an have them transfer my existing plan to the new phone. Called customer service and waste over an hour but the person was unable to get it to work and said they had a problem that was not disclosed. Tried again to transfer the service to the new phone online and this time it reported that the ESN was locked to "NET10". Net10 is one of the many other names that Tracfone operates under as is StraightTalk, and others... Tried online chat again and asked what ESN Locked to NET10 means and they said that the new iPhone ESn was associated with their Net10 service by the phone operator that I spoke with earlier and that it can not be undone. The offered no solution. They have effectively locked an otherwise perfectly good iPhone 4s to their Net10 Service and rendered it completely useless to me. Net10 has minimum $35/mo plans vs Tracfone that has a $100 annual plan that I recently renewed. After this I will be reporting to my State Attorney General and Public Service Commission. And I guess I will have to file a small claims court claim against Tracfone to get reimbursed for the cost of the iPhone, and contact my credit card company to dispute the recent annual renewal charge for my Tracfone account. Sometimes a bargain is no bargain at all... this was over 4 hours in the making... and I have less than nothing to show for it. I suggest that you do not try this. It is a colossal mistake.
