Wells Fargo World Propel Comes With A $500 Cash Bonus ($700 In Travel) 3k Spend In 3 Months Required

Wells Fargo main aim this year was to get a larger share of the personal credit card market. They released two new cards yesterday to help them accomplish this.

Wells Fargo Propel World American Express [wellsfargo.com]
  • 40,000 points after $3,000 in spend within the first three months
  • up to $100 in reimbursements for airline incidental charges (e.g food and beverage on a flight, baggage fees)
  • 3x points on all airline purchases, 2x points on all hotel purchases
  • No annual fee first year, then $175

Points can be redeemed at 1c = 1 point for statement credit or a check, making the 40k points worth $400 (plus the $100 in incident airline charges to bring us to $100). You can also redeem them for airline tickets, it's supposed to also be 1c = 1 point, but for some reason it turns out to be more like 1.5c = 1 point. You do have to pay a $24 booking fee though.

This is a great card for those of us who already have way too many miles/points. Probably wouldn't hear too much about this from the bloggers because there is no affiliate commission.

They also launched the Propel 365 [wellsfargo.com] which has a smaller sign up bonus of 20,000 points after $3k in spend and 3x on gas, 2x on restaurants.

Waived first year on both. I am just signing up for the propel world and then I'll cancel if I don't get a retention bonus I like.

I count any credit card that gives you 400 bucks for spending 3 grand a good deal, regardless of the annual fee the 2nd year. I'll cancel in the 11th month. I have cancelled so many credit cards in my life after getting the gift cards/statement credits etc. I have NEVER been denied a card, and I only make 32 grand a year.

The original post is pretty short and it explains how I got to $700 in travel. When redeeming for travel expenses it seems like you can redeem at 1.5cent per point, therefore 40,000 points = $600 + the $100 incidental airline reimbursement.

I imagine this deal is going to get pretty popular so if you do apply let us know the following information:

If you were approved or denied
Your credit score
What credit bureau they pulled from
What credit limit you received

Where's the language that says $0.015/pt?

I see that they say you earn an extra 50% if your banking relationship is PMA, is that what you mean? But that doesn't kick in until the 13th month after you pay at least 1 annual fee.

The only $ to point ratio I can see is:

It's not in any of the language, but some people with wells fargo points have reported they got that (or close to it) when they redeem their points for airline tickets.

Do you get a point multiplier if you use the card to buy airline tickets? Interested in hearing how this compares to other travel friendly cards as I need to book a trip ASAP.
FWIW mine was approved for $12K with a 750 as a current WF mortgage customer. You can expedite the approval process by calling 18775143717

It ends up being $400 cash back. The $100 incidental charge wouldn't apply for most people, I assume. Unless you buy a $100 airline gift card and they refund you for that....
