This is insanity. The J1 was at this blowout price for years. YEARS!!! Then in a matter of weeks we've blown by the J2 and now we are on the J3. Did Nikon finally stop cranking out millions of cameras before knowing if they would sell?

front page material at this price. nikon really stepped this one up in the nikon 1 mirrorless lineup with a newer 14.2MP sensor and their really fast expeed 3a image processor, capable of 15 fps with autofocus and 60 fps without.

reps coming your op

LOL!!! Look who OP is. It's the frontpage editor. Somehow I think Buydig already bought their spot there.

Dang I'm tempted to swap out the J1 to a J3 for this price.

Dang that's tempting. I remember trying the J1 or J2 in the past but found the image quality to be abysmal (compared to Canon s110). Is the J3 up to snuff now?

Well... let's take a look at a couple of reviews.

"The only drawback is the image quality, which looks more like that of a compact when compared to other ILCs."

http://www.steves-digicams.com/ca...n-272.html

But remember that Steve gushes about everything. I don't recall ever reading a bad review from him for any camera.

Trusted is a little more blunt about it.

"The camera only really performs well at ISO 160 and 200, with colour distortion appearing from ISO 400. As you go further up the settings it gets even worse, so it’s sensible that Nikon has limited the maximum ISO to 6400 as even at this level the camera struggles dearly."

"The Nikon 1 J3 is flawed on several levels. It handles poorly, has limited features and takes deeply average photos. It’s rare for a camera to disappoint this much, but the Nikon 1 J3 is one to avoid."

http://www.trustedreviews.com/nik...YlbipuC.99

Remember that these reviews were at it's outrageously MSRP of $600 or so. At $200, the Nikon 1s are worthy for consideration for their high speed video modes.

here is a link to reviews that might help you. looks like 4.5 out of 5 stars based on 81 reviews at google [google.com]

that is very well said. same is true with a lot of official reviews in that they rate the products based their specs/performance etc. and MSRP at time of review

this is why i try to defer mostly to actual user reviews which make up most of these reviews here [google.com]

Those google review summaries are... funny. Not as in ha ha funny but as in somethings not right funny. Look at their summary of the techradar review. That review says the camera is 4 out of 5 stars. Yet if you click on the actual review it says.

"We liked

The body redesign to make this the smallest and lightest CSC on the market (with a decent) sensor size makes it an attractive camera for carrying around on a day-to-day basis.

We disliked

It's a huge shame that the camera performed badly in our labs tests."

Which makes it kind of a weird review. They loved it, except that it performed badly in the image quality tests. How can a camera perform badly yet get 4 out of 5 stars?

The current/recent Adorama Canon SL1 deal (after rebates and selling extras) is my choice, but I still think this camera is pretty cool Smilie

Lol wow, I just bought the J2 for $10 on the other FP SD... I was not all that impressed (though perhaps it was just ID10T error - cam noob), plus mine was defective so I sent it back for an exchange. I think I will just return when I get the exchange, and wait for another camera deal.
