Any reason people choose this over the nexus 5 besides size?

To avoid turning into a Moto X vs Nexus 5 thread (like every Moto X deal thread) maybe you should just watch on of the comparison videos on YouTube. There are dozens of them.

But if you can wait, it might become even cheaper, as technology does.

The ergonomics are NICE; it feels great in the hand, touchless voice control, smaller screen size if someone likes that, larger storage options with a 64 GB model available, customizable colors, Motorola's add on software like Moto Alert, Moto Assist, on device customer service chat, Moto Migrate.

There are a bunch of bonuses that I'm not thinking of due to just waking up and being kind of out of it, however there are LOTS of cons as well. I wouldn't buy it because the successor is only a month away. I'd rather wait till they release a phone with the same ergonomics with bigger higher res screen, and a more modern/power efficient processor. I'm going to ditch my Note 3 for a Moto X 2, that's the plan anyways.

Looks like it gets added to cart together with phone and stays there even after the discount is applied.

Unfortunately the $100 MotoTradeUp rebate period expired three weeks ago, so this is no longer a crazy-good deal.

just saying if the price is similar, I'll wait a month. sure the moto x price will drop again but having a new phone now has value especially since I recently broke my phone.

There is only news about the moto x+1,that's it. No Moto x2 rumours.
