For those with Chromecast, what internet speed do you have? I've got 15/15 Fios, which I'm guessing is too slow to support it because I cannot get the tv to ever display a video file - just lags beyond belief.
I have 11 down and 1 up and I still can stream 1080p movies to my TV with no lag.

thanks for the advice Are you talking about windows 7, under Performance, CPU usage? When I test playing a movie on my phone, it drops up and down from 5% to 95% cpu usage

Edit: under transcode it says make my CPU hurt, I have i5 3570k.
Yes, CPU usage on the plex server computer.

If the server cannot transcode in real time, then it will stutter.

You can try to change from "make my CPU hurt" to something lower so that it will lessen the CPU load.

Which is better: Chromecast or Roku?
Both are great and have a small USB stick enclosure, really depends on your preference

Chromecast:
$30-35
Needs a computer/phone/tablet
Not limited to Apps, can play anything on a browser
No official support for Amazon Prime Instant Video

Roku 3500R:
$50
Can connect with a computer/phone/tablet but doesn't NEED them (comes with a remote)
Limited to Roku specific Apps/channels
Official Amazon Prime Instant Video channel

I just checked my offers list and I didnt find any offers currently active for Amazon. Can you please confirm you see it?
After logging in and getting into that tab, if you are selected, you should be able to see an Amazon offer.

tip, one of my favorite things is using my androids as a flikr nature show on my spare display. I found FireFrame on amazon and Flikr daily on Google work great. Just browse thumbnails, save to storage and run with FireFrame. My android stick runs 24/7 but I can mirror my Nexus 7 to chromecast or KFHD over HDMI. Lotsa eye candy!

For the price, I love my chromecast...but time to time... it takes 30 min or more to be detectable... not always but frequent enough

5 meg is all here and no lag. Do a speedtest and check your wireless signal.

It works fine. It can only output 2.0 audio so if you have a 7.1 setup then it might be a limitation.
i get 5.1 audio from my chromecast just fine!

I was amazed using my Chromecast streaming Plex. I have a 100/25 connection for my plex server, but was able to seamlessly stream from this DC residence to a house in Michigan with a 10/3 connection beautifully. I love my Chromecast...and adding Plex to it is just icing on the cake. but, getting in on the 1.99 plex deal makes this one of the best devices Ive owned. Netflix to my non smart TV, check. Youtube to the same, check. Local videos (or streamed across the country from my home PC) without having to turn on ny old original Xbox with XBOX, check. Worth every penny.
