I've searched and doesn't seem to be any previous mentions/deals about the Asus Flip TP500LA (well, it is a newly released laptop). For those that were looking at the Asus Q501 deal from yesterday( http://slickdeals.net/f/7092566-asus-touchscreen-laptop-refurbished-i5-4200u-6gb-ddr3-750gb-hdd-15-6-1920x1080-ips-led-win-8-470-free-shipping ) but were turned off because it's refurbished, you might be interested in this laptop. Keep in mind, this is new and comes with 1 year warranty (with accidental damage covered) from Asus.

It looks to be a Q501LA with the body of a Yoga 2 Pro. Not too many reviews on the unit so far, but http://www.ultrabookreview.com/45...ln-review/ indicates that the MSRP should be around $800.

Amazon reviews, while few, say its a good laptop. Biggest concern would be the lack of AC wireless and SSD. While it may be impractical to use a 15.6" in tablet mode, its still a decent laptop that has the capability.

Isn't this too heavy to be portable?

Full tablet mode, yeah, doesn't make too much sense. But there might be some use cases for a "tent" setup. At least the laptop gives you options.

No. If you carry it, then you'll be fine.

You're right. I don't think any human could lift a 5 lb laptop. Not portable at all. Might as well use it as a boat anchor.

I use my 10 inch Android tablet a lot and I actually have thought before that I wanted a larger tablet, and when using touchscreen laptops I have always been annoyed that they think 2 in 1's have to be capped at 13 inches. Sure, I won't use it for walking around on the street, but I don't use my current tablet for that either. This is, for me, the most tempting deal on a convertible laptop that has been posted.

What year are we in? 2010? Desktops don't even weigh 5 lbs anymore.

On a serious note, looks like a good laptop though.

just bought a y2p, so this peaks my interest, at least the 13" one. specs aren't as good, and seems kinda bulky but i want to check it out on display.

just dont try to wave at me as I carry my Asus convertible, you might drop your desktop..losing a pinky toe is not fun at all..

LOL - I just couldn't resist when I saw your comment..I love weight and portability comments on these laptop deals.. By the way, I have no opinion one way or other...and dont own this laptop or intent to buy it...

The problem with this design is that the keyboard and touchpad will still be exposed if I want to use it as a tablet. I haven't read the spec but even with the keyboard being inactive. Would still annoy me that the back isn't one flat surface. That's my own opinion though.

Why does it spike your interest. This is a very bad copy of the Yoga concept. If you think the y2p is expensive, get the Yoga 2.

Haha I know. It spikes my interest simply because it is a similar computer and it's an Asus. Wouldn't trade my y2p for it.
