Thread Details

I just got in the mail today this letter.... I was completely shocked when I opened it.

Quote :
We're moving you to a better Internet plan that increases your speed at no additional cost.
Check your mails, check your twc.com, restart your DOCSIS 3.0 routers and hope that you're eligible for the free upgrade !

By the way... I'm on Ultimate 100/5 right now in a household of 5 in Orange County so once I request a new router, it'll be new speeds up to 300/20 Mbps.

My brother on the 15/1 did NOT receive a letter and after restarting his DOCSIS 3.0 modem did not get the boosted 50/5 Mbps speed in Fullerton, CA.

This is different, I already got upgraded once within the last 6 months.

I paid for 50/5 and free upgrade to 100/5, and now they're doing it again to 300/20.

There's a thread on DSL reports which has dates for NYC & CA. Check before rebooting your modem daily for new speeds.

if you paid for 50/5 initially, the upgrade should have been 300/20 in the 1st place.

What the hell. I'm on 15/1 in Rochester NY. I sure could use an upgrade. But they cap me at 16mbps which is a little extra. I need speed too!

don't know if the speed upgrade a while back was just NYC or NY state, but most NYC customers are getting it now. Check dslreports forum.

I contacted them a while back and they said speeds up to 50mbps are available in my area. So they probably don't have anything more than the actual 50/5 but still if they changed me from 15/1 to 50/5 I would be one happy camper.

Wondering if this has anything to do with new/more competition in your area. Cable companies aren't generally known for their generosity but they are known for improving things when they get a little bit of competition.

I know for me personally, Time Warner wouldn't budge on price till ATT Uverse came to my neighborhood. As soon as Uverse was available on my street, TW upped my speed and lowered my price.

these are called Maxx Upgrade by TWC. TWC.com/bettertwc for more info. It is very targeted areas and anything over 100mbps you need a 16x4 bonding channel modem. The only option today is leasing one from TWC.

And no, restarting modem will not get you better speeds. Some people are bonding all channels but still get what they're paying for. And others don't have a capable modem... good luck. I got 200/20 from turbo and it's okay not much of a big notice...

Well, I paid for 50/5 initially in January when I first moved into my current house. I paid 70.99 for the 50/5 then they told me to come pick up a new modem which pushed me to 100/5 a few weeks later.

7 months later, they're rolling out even faster speeds!

I literally just got this in the mail, so check either DSL reports daily, or your mail daily. I don't frequent those websites, so I was just in shock when I saw this unexpectedly... Afterall, I thought I was getting a darn good deal @ 70.99 for 100/5 mbps internet. laugh out loud

You're telling me that turbo rated at 20/2, even if you didn't get that initially considering that would have probably rolled to 50/5 or so at the end of 2013 to 200/20 now does not feel worlds different?!

That was actually the progression. Congrats on your area finally getting the upgrade and just enjoy it. I'm in the LA market so I was on 100/5 starting late last year. We have received letters like that too. I have been waiting for Motorla SB6183 to be released (sometime in August according to TWC) for over three months (TWC finished the 300/20 upgrade back in April) now so I can finally get to try out some 300/20 goodness. August can't get here soon enough.

My Ookla speedtest reports 115/10 and I'm very happy that I do get that speed by testing it with Usenet download of a large file. Sustained 115mbps down for now.
