Looks exactly like a faster paced souls game with a different setting, enemies etc in my opinion.

New details on combat as well
Quote :
The new, more offensive combat actually goes much deeper, by way of our brand new Regain System, which rewards players for taking more risks and being more decisive and strategic. The Regain System allows players to recover health lost after taking damage by striking back at enemies within a short time period with a bladed weapon. Basically, The Regain system allows players a way to channel that negative energy they feel from taking a hit, and direct it back at the enemy to get revenge and steal back the health they lost.
The amount of health you can recover will be shown in yellow in the HP gauge, and it will get shorter over time if you hesitate to strike. You will still have to be smart and strategic with your strikes, as attacking indiscriminately could lead to taking more damage at the hands of the enemy. Now, the strategy and skill come into play in your offensive and counter-attack tactics, rather than waiting and timing defensive tactics just right.

With Bloodborne we are also seeing an evolution in the weapon design. Set in a more modern 19th Century style gothic setting, you'll have firearms like the blunderbuss shotgun at your disposal to drive back multiple enemies at a distance, and to do massive damage at close range. But the core of the combat will be the transforming blade weapons that decorate the screen with copious amounts of blood.
At E3 we introduced the first of these weapons, the saw cleaver. In its short form, it is perfect for quick successive attacks at close range. By transforming it into its long form, you'll be able to deal larger amounts of damage with more powerful long-range strikes. However, these longer reaching strikes take longer to swing, so you will be vulnerable to attack during the wind-up. What's more, you can transform the blade mid-combo and that transformation of the blade itself becomes a unique attack (check this out in action in the trailer).
There will be many more weapons to master, including a massive transforming axe as seen in the playable demo at Gamescom this week which can be used one-handed or in both hands, and another weapon seen in the new trailer.

Kyle: Dude! I almost thought those Afghani kids talked you into not liking America.
Stan: No, dude. America may have some problems, but it's our home. Our team. And if you don't wanna root for your team, then you should get the hell out of the stadium.
Kyle: Yeah.
Stan: <salutes the American flag> Go America.
Kyle: <salutes> Go America...
Stan: Go Broncos
Kyle: Yeah go Broncos.
Cartman: Yeah...

Not really like a god of war type of game. That's kind of like comparing fallout to cod.

Well how about Diablo III?

I was just saying God of War because it looks like you run up to big monster guy things and hack and slash...

It just looked a little slow and repetitive. I read the comments on the site with the game description though. Everyone seems stoked for this game. Maybe I dont know WTF I am talking about (likely), or maybe there hasnt been much to get excited about this gen?

Not gonna argue there hasn't been much to get excited for this gen because in my view there hasn't been. BUT it's more like a souls game but faster paced and apparently rewards risk taking. I don't know if you've played demon's/dark souls but basically any enemy can take your health down in a hurry and a boss can kill you in a couple seconds sometimes. Unlike god of war where you take a couple hits (or more if you're on one if the lower difficulties) and keep hacking away, you have to be more careful in those games. The idea being that higher difficulty will make it more intense and rewarding when you pass a boss or whatever.

This coming from someone who has not played through the other games (just started dark souls 1) so maybe I'm wrong about some of that... A souls fan can feel free to correct me.

I've only played the demo of diablo but from that and what I've seen it looks like a lot more of a button masher.

Dark souls 1 is an excellent game and the guy who made it is making Bloodborne. I am looking forward to this more than anything else now.

I highly recommend trying dark souls to see what these people's games are like. I know I'm starting to sound like a broken record but the game is fantastic. As a matter of fact I would take more like dark souls over god of war in a heartbeat. It might not *look* that fun combat wise but it is. And Bloodborne appears to be a new take on it as well so it might be even better. 30 hours into dark souls and I still have a ways to go before I finish.

Yeah dude, its that good in my opinion. Not even having finished it or visited a bunch of areas, so far I'd say dark souls is one the best games I've ever played. If the others are close to this good I will have to play them all.

Trying to gauge this game and your preferences a bit more...were you a fan of Skyrim or Oblivion? I was not a fan of either but I guess to be honest I didn't really give Oblivion a real chance and I never even played Skyrim due to my not being hooked into Oblivion.

Meanwhile for some reason I really want to play Dragon Age: Inquisition (not having ever played a Dragon Age game).

I didn't play skyrim or oblivian. Nor have I played dragon age. I did think fallout 3 was pretty awesome though. I need to look into DAI and see what it's like. I haven't been paying any attention to be honest.

The nice thing I'd these games are a few years old so they are cheap to try. If you can get over the early difficulty, it's awesome. It can be super frustrating at first though.
