Official details on this promotion from Verizon (You can do it all online and after you have already bought the iPhone 6/6+):
iPhone Trade-in Promotion [verizonwireless.com]

How does this trade-in promotion work?

You will receive a $200 VZW Trade-in Gift Card when you trade in your old iPhone 4, iPhone 4s, iPhone 5, or iPhone 5c, and purchase a new iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus with a new Verizon Edge agreement, 2 year contract, or when you pay full retail price.

You will receive a $300 VZW Trade-in Gift Card when you trade in your old iPhone 5s and purchase a new iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus with a new Verizon Edge agreement, 2 year contract, or when you pay full retail price.

Once you submit your trade online, you will receive shipping materials to mail your old iPhone back to VZW.

Mail back your old iPhone in the shipping materials that were mailed to you after you receive your new iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus. Be aware of the 11/15 deadline for returning your old iPhone.

The Trade-In promotion is also available in Verizon Wireless Retail Stores from 9/12/14 thru 9/30/14.

What are the requirements to participate in this offer?

You must be purchasing either iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus on a new Verizon Edge agreement, 2 year contract, or when you pay full retail price. If you do not purchase iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus, you' will receive the normal trade-in value for your device.

Your iPhone trade-in can be from any carrier & must be in good working condition:

Phone can turn on and off.
LCD screen is free of cracks and functioning correctly.
Phone and connecting ports are free of visible corrosion and water damage.
Phone and charging port are free of cracks and dents, and not missing any pieces or chunks (not including cords or accessories).
For iPhones running iOS 7 or higher, the Find My iPhone feature must be deactivated (turned off) before iPhone is traded in.

Your account must be in good standing to participate in this trade-in offer.

Early Edge and Edge Up customers are not eligible for this promotion at this time.

When can I trade my old iPhone and purchase the new iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus?

Starting on 9/12/14 you can visit verizonwireless.com and place your preorder for the new iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus.

Once your purchase is complete, visit the online trade-in website to submit your trade request. You must submit your trade between 9/12/14 & 9/30/14 to receive this promotion.

Please allow up to 4-6 weeks from receipt of trade-in device for the Verizon Wireless Gift Card to arrive if trade-in was submitted online.

Best Buy $50 GC on phone purchases till Dec 2014 - for people who registered in February this year ( https://slickdeals.net/f/6665610-best-buy-50-best-buy-gift-card-with-new-phone-purchase-in-2014-when-registered-between-feb-2-15-2014). Then take your old iphone to the Verizon store/online for the trade in to get the $200 gift card.
has it been verified that purchases through other retailers will qualify?

I chatted with them yesterday and just got off the phone with the CSR and she confirmed it. You can buy a Verizon iPhone 6 anywhere and still get the $200 gift card by trading in your old iPhone.

Edit: 9/15; went to a Verizon Store and checked about trading in an iPhone 4 when purchasing from another retailer other than Verizon and was told I would not qualify as this is a Verizon Promo. I asked to see something that states this in writing and they were unable to present me with anything. I then called 611 and asked a Verizon CSR the same question and was told that I would not qualify if I bought elsewhere.
Not sure which answer is correct.

Edit: 9/20: Confirmed and saved the chat transcript with online rep from verizon who confirmed purchasing iphone 6 from apple store would still qualify for $200 iphone 4 trade in promo

If anyone here still has an unlimited/grandfathered plan, does anyone know if you can still do the trick where you transfer the upgrade from a "grandfathered/unlimited" phone (PHONE A) to another phone (PHONE B) that doesn't have unlimited data, and then activate it on Phone B, then put it back on Phone A? Or did they close that "loophole"?

If phone A has unlimited, and phone B has data plan (2GB or more), then you can transfer upgrade from phone A to phone B, upgrade the hardware on phone B's line, then switch devices back to phone A while phone A keeps unlimited plan.

Verizon representative on chat confirmed that doing so you will lose the unlimited data plan from phone A as technically it is still considered as phone A being upgraded

If that trick doesn't work what other ways are there to keep your unlimited data?
current thread here: https://slickdeals.net/f/6964624-upgrade-and-keep-your-unlimited-data-with-verizon?v=1

I don't know about doing it in Verizon, but I do it all the time at Best Buy. I get 3 upgrades every 2 years because my parents are on my plan, and they have dumb phones. I just transfer all my upgrades from unlimited phones (3 of them) to the dumb phones, then re-activate the phones back on their unlimited lines. Best Buy might match the Verizon offer. Can't hurt to ask.

don't do the above as of 8/24/14 verizon has required data plans meaning you cannot purchase a smartphone on a dumbphone contract/line and then drop back to the dumb phone removing the 2gb data plan and then moving your line to the other unlimited plan

T-Mobile might match the trade-in offer:

AT&T is also running the same offer:

hmm, since t-mobile is running their promotion where you can trade in the iphone and they will beat any competitor's price offer..if you find something that has a better price tmobile will match it and give you $50. I wonder if they would match this..I"m sure they would...I currently have an iphone 4s.. $200 is about what they go for on craigslist give or take 20-30

Any idea how long this promo lasts? I don't think my plan is eligible for an upgrade until November.

Wonder if a crack on the screen would be a problem? It says item must be in good working condition...

So I can do this if I am in the middle of my current 2 year plan and have a 4s, correct? And it should end up costing me nothing out of pocket?
