LIVE NOW!!! Worked for accounts without prime.

This deal doesn't apply to "trial membership" per chat with an Amazon agent.

Is it true that this is for new members only?
The promotion that is being offered on Saturday is for new Members of Prime that have never signed up for it.

Existing Prime members should read below about the "Prime Gift Certificate" method to get in on the deal

Quote from xxborisxx :
Quote from Amazon Customer Service :
New customers that would like to sign up for an Amazon Prime membership will be able to do so at a reduced cost of $72 by visiting www.amazon.com/TransparentPrime .
This reduced price is only available on January 24, and customers must visit this link link ( www.amazon.com/TransparentPrime ) to receive the reduced price.

Existing members can buy a gift membership for $72 to use on their own account
Gift memberships [amazon.com] are also $72 and can be purchased by existing members. Enter your own email address when asked for the recipients email. You will receive a Prime membership redemption code emailed to you. Save this code in a safe place and use it when your Prime membership expires to extend your membership. If you redeem the code while you still have Prime, you will receive a $72 Amazon credit added to your account. (source [aftvnews.com])

Gift code of prime membership has to be sent out no later than one year from today. However, the code itself never expires and can be redeemed anytime.

**There is NO CODE. This information is incorrect. The gift email will have a link which you click on to redeem the gift of Prime membership.

-----------------------
In order to avoid the auto renewal of Prime (which is the default option) at the end of your year of prime and so you can use the gift membership you bought for $72 you need to do the following:

Go to "Your account" and then select the sixth option down – "Your Prime Membership". On the left sidebar, you'll see an option to end your membership. The first time you click, it does not end immediately, it gives you more options. The options were something like, "Continue membership", "get a reminder 3 days before membership ends" and "end membership". Again – if you click on "end membership" it does not actually end your membership right away, as you might expect, instead, it gives you the option to either cancel immediately, or have it cancel on the annual renewal date. Chose 2nd option so your Prime will be cancelled at the end of your year of service. The next day after that happens use your gift Prime membership. Hope it helps! mannyaguilar
-----------------------

***NOTE: If you end your membership in order to redeem this you WILL LOSE EVERYTHING STORED IN YOUR PRIME ACCOUNT. All the music, cloud storage, Kindle, etc. It will all be gone if you let your Prime membership expire. Straight from Amazon customer service: "I'm sorry currently there is no option to get gift Prime membership without losing the content stored in your account."

The above "***NOTE" is NOT true. I let my Prime membership expire for a little over a month to redeem my gift membership and I did not lose anything.

I wonder if this would work for renewals. If not, you can probably purchase a gift membership and send it to yourself. I still have an $80 gift membership banked from the Kindle Fire / Amazon Visa deal. If I got this, I'd be good until 2017 for Prime

Mine doesn't expire until May 2015. Can I buy this and renew it till May 2016 or gifting is the only option?

My prime just ended on 11th of this month.

Hopefully it works for me...couldn't justify paying $100 for a year of prime even by adding family members and splitting the payments

Interesting. For me, it's probably the best $100 that I spend all year.

Cool, going to try to gift myself a membership. I'm currently on a membership I gifted to myself last year and it ends in May.

Can I ask you a question about your account? My prime ended in Nov after paying $59 for a special they had once and I couldn't justify paying $99 for it again. I did hear that you can share w/family, so are you saying that if I live in NY and my brother lives in Arizona, we can share a prime membership splitting the cost at $50 each?
