You can not stack GCU with price matches. YMMV to get an employee override but they're not supposed to.
You actually can if it is a post purchase price match to best buy (ie buy something one week and next week it is cheaper at best buy) and if it is still during the return/exchange period (proof near the edd of the first post):
Q: Can the 20% off benefit be combined with a price match?
A: At the time of purchase, you would receive either the price match or 20% off. You would not be able to receive 20% off of a matched price. If Best Buy's price is lowered during the return/exchange period, the price will be matched to the lower price (upon request). My Best Buy Gamers Club Unlocked Members should receive the new price along with the 20% discount. This price match covers one price match per identical item per customer.

Q. How do I know I have been CORRECTLY registered into GCU?
A. You should see a "Gamers Club Unlocked" icon in your BB rewards overview on the right side of the page.
Q. If I register for GCU in-store, what is the correct procedure for activating your GCU account?
A1. If you used the older GCU card to register in-store (ie., the one with the "wrapped gifts" picture at the front), the checkout person MUST scan both the top barcode and the uncovered bottom barcode (after removing the covering yellow sticker). If only the first barcode is scanned, your GCU account has most likely NOT been activated. I had to return to a Best Buy to have them scan that second barcode before I finally saw the "GCU" icon in my online rewards overview. Save yourself a second trip and ensure your cashier does it correctly the first time.

A2. If you used the newer, more plain-looking GCU card to register in-store (blue front, boring), there's only one barcode available on the back. Supposedly, it's believed that scanning this one code is sufficient.

I've had the same issue as everyone else (wasted an hour yesterday with multiple exchanges/re-buys by numerous associates and managers) and I was finally able to get this activated just now. Since so many are having problems with this, I asked the associate the exact steps he had to take to get this to work. There are basically two ways of getting this done (gift version or self-use version). Basically for the gift version, you need to treat it as two separate transactions - first to buy the card (like any gift card) for someone, then having that someone (in this case, yourself) to claim the benefits of the card.
  1. Purchase the Gift version (SKU 9090667) for $30 in person. You can order online for pick up but I'd suggest you don't, as it is higly likely that the associate will screw it up. If the yellow tape has been removed when you go to pick it up, you will need a new card as that one is useless.
  2. Have them scan the small bar code up top to ring up the $30 cost first. Then they will scan the larger barcode to activate the card itself (like any gift card). Make sure they DO NOT remove the yellow tape to scan the second barcode at this time. Close out the transaction completely.
    • NOTE: If they remove the tape and scan that barcode on the same transaction, it will show as "activated" in their system but it will not be correctly applied to your account. You will need to basically throw out the card at this point as you cannot use this anymore. Have them do an exchange for a new card with the tape still on it.
  3. In a new transaction, have them bring up your RewardZone account first, then have them remove the tape and scan the second barcode (no others barcodes) to tie it to your account.
  4. Test to make sure it is activated, it should be done instantly. You can scan a game (it will pop up on their screen saying you have GCU) or you can check on the spot from your phone (it should show "unlocked" under Gamer's Club: see

If they still can't figure it out, you can have them exchange the gift version for the self-use version (SKU 3081475 or 3081375, light blue card)

For reference:
Q. Can I buy GCU without activating it to give as a gift or to start the membership later (ie. avoid losing a month without use)?
Yes. To do this you need to buy the older GCU card (ie., the one with the "wrapped gifts" picture at the front). This card has a yellow sticker in the back. While in the store buy the card without peeling the sticker off, the clerk will just scan the code that is visible on top. Once you want to activate the membership go back to the store and have an employee activate the membership by peeling the yellow sticker off and scanning the barcode. Note that the card has an activation expiration date printed on the back, 1/31/2015, and must be activated by that date.
Q. What does new games means?
Any game that is not labeled as pre-owned, ie. 20% discount applies to un-released and released games no matter how old they are as long as they are not pre-owned. Note that the GCU discount does not applies to digital downloads games/keys/codes.
Q. Can I buy only 3 new games per year?
No, you can buy as many new games you want per year but the GCU discount will only apply to the first 3 new copies of the same game of the same console. This means that you can buy for example 3 COD PS4, 3 COD XBOX, 3 COD PC, etc with the GCU discount, but if you try to buy a 4th COD PS4 you don't get the GCU discount for that 4th PS4 copy. If later that same year you buy 3 GTA PS4 you will get the GCU discount for those 3 copies too since it's a different game.
Q. When you preorder a game. Will you get it on release day like amazon or does it just ship on release day and you get it 2 days later?

... (2) If you pre-order online for Ship to Home, your purchase will be processed and shipped on or about street date. ...
Q. I'm already a GCU member, can I buy this and apply it to my account to extend the membership period 2 more years?
Yes. From BB GCU Terms and Conditions:

If you purchase and activate a new Gamers Club Unlocked membership before your existing membership ends, the new 2-year membership will begin after your existing 2-year membership period ends. If you do not renew your Gamers Club Unlocked membership at the end of your 2-year membership period, your Gamers Club Unlocked membership will expire; but you will continue to be a Gamers Club member (see above Gamers Club Terms for details).
****Make sure you only buy the light blue one for extending. If you buy the dark blue one, it will mess things up thinking it's a gift and not give your renewal an additional 2 years.

yeah instead of paying $99 for 2 years, you're only paying $30. being a member is an automatic 20% off any new games.... so instead of paying $59.99, you'll always pay $47.99.

just from buying 3 new release games you've already got back what you paid for the membership.

"new" game applies to any game that's still in plastic regardless of release date.

best buy has 30% trade in bonus at random time... plus your 10% member bonus.

you'll get the most when trading in then.

Bought this around May of last year for $60 and it was well worth it. With end of year sales on GCU last year I'm covered through May 2022.

Haven't upgraded to new console generation (Don't plan to). I own a Xbox 360 and a PC. Is the purchase still worth it for me?
