Hello, I hope you are doing well.

GreenChef.com [greenchef.com] is offering their 6 Home-Delivered Meals for 2 People Plan for $9, which covers the cost of delivery. Not all locations are available, and certain locations may be eligible for fewer than 6 meals; please check the Green Chef website for delivery areas. Do note that this is a subscription-based program, but there aren't any commitments and you can cancel at any time (see below for more information).

Note about the Meals
  • Each Green Chef delivery comes with the recipes and ingredients you need to cook three meals for the week for each person. Some of the ingredients have been prepared for you so that you can cook dinner in 20 to 30 minutes. Each recipe is color-coded for easy sorting and contains easy-to-follow directions. Each meal is designed to be well-balanced and healthy. The only thing you need at home is olive oil, salt, and pepper.
Food Options
  • Food options include Carnivore, Omivore, and Vegetarian.
  • I have attached images to this thread that shows exactly what the menu is for each plan for the upcoming delivery date of 3/11/2015.
Savings and Price
  • At $9, each delivered meal comes out to be $1.50.
  • You will be getting a savings of ~90%.
  • The regular price for the Carnivore option is $14.99 per meal, so the 6 meals plus a $9 delivery fee is $98.94. The regular price for the Omnivore option is $13.99 per meal, for a total of $92.94. The regular price for the Vegetarian option is $13.99 per meal, for a total of $89.94.
Commitments and Cancellations
  • According to their FAQ, "There are no minimum commitments, you can skip or cancel at any time. Cut-off times for skipping or canceling are 7 days prior to your scheduled delivery date."
  • My own recommendation is that after signing up and confirming the first delivery, click here [greenchef.com] and skip the next shipment so you have some time to decide if you want to continue the deliveries.
  • To cancel your account, email cancel@greenchef.com before your weekly cut-off time (7 days prior to your delivery at noon EST).
  • I personally recommend a virtual credit card number with a set dollar limit, just to be safe.
Additional Information
  • For general information about Green Chef, click here [greenchef.com].
  • For their Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) page, click here [greenchef.com].
  • This seems similar to the more popular Blue Apron and Plated.
Enjoy!

I'm tempted, but reluctant. Has anyone had experience with this company before that they can offer? Have you tried this deal personally, TofuVic? I'm considering it regardless, but hearing experiences will make it easier to make a decision.

I completely understand. My own experience is a bit limited, unfortunately. I started working on this deal earlier this week and just started my own subscription this morning. I do not know anyone who has a Green Chef subscription, so that isn't very helpful either.

I spent some time doing the write-up above, loading the post with information in an attempt to be as clear as possible. I will definitely update this thread as I learn more about the company and this promotion.

Yes, thank you for all you've done. I would definitely jump on it if my bank offered the virtual credit card numbers, but unfortunately it does not. I'll probably sit on the idea until after lunch, then make my decision when I'm less hungry. drool

I've seen similar deals around and I assume they are all the same company or else they are all doing the same thing. My brother just did this exact same deal with Blue Apron and he seemed to like it. There was no trouble in skipping weeks and he is actually considering keeping it.

You're welcome. I have no idea how long this promotion will last, but if you are unsure and would rather be safe, you can wait until I get my subscription so I can share my personal experience. My first delivery will be on 3/11/2015; I know, it's nearly two weeks away.

Do enjoy your lunch! Your lunch may cost more than the $1.50 per meal of this deal, but I hope that it's at least something you're familiar with... haha.

I think most of them are competing companies, but I may be wrong. I have tried Blue Apron in the past and thought the food was delicious. Another popular one is Plated.

As I stated in my first post above, my own recommendation is that even prior to receiving the first shipment, you may want to go to your account and skip the next shipment so you have some time to decide if you want to continue the deliveries.

For example, my first delivery is 3/11/2015. On 3/9/2015, I plan to skip the delivery on 3/18/2015. If I decide to continue the subscription, I won't do anything else and allow them to come. If I decide I want to cancel, I will email cancel@greenchef.com as soon as possible to cancel the subscription.

I hope this helps,

Oh, thank you for letting us know you can skip future deliveries that way! I will do that personally and will update the first post of this thread.

I hope this all works out well for us and that we get to enjoy delicious food at a very inexpensive price.

Thank you so much!

I'm only getting 3 meals - is the "6 meals" actually 3 meals for 2 people? If so that's a bit misleading, but I may be missing something.

Do they charge the $9 shipping for every delivery?

This seems rather expensive compared to other similar offerings. They want $12 per meal for vegetarian options while other services charge $10 and no additional shipping.

ETA: It does seem they charge the $9 every time. I've been considering signing up for a similar service but I think I will try out one of the less costly options first.
