ey guys,

I didn't see this posted, so I thought I'd share. This matches the recent +56 FP Deal for the 5 TB Seagate Backup Plus External HDD and has an extra 1 year warranty to boot!

NOTE: This external hard drive is backed by a 3 year Parts & Labor Warranty.
If you purchase something through a post on our site, Slickdeals may get a small share of the sale.

Is this available anywhere else? I can't find it on b&h, unlike the seagate.

Can confirm 100% - BOTH of mine came with 5400 RPM drives...

They work PERFECTLY as on-demand drives to host 4TB of movies and 3.5 TB of TV Shows - they idle down nicely (on USB 3) and from completely stopped, spin up to reading a movie in less than 4 seconds - no complaints here! Smilie

yap, for those wondering 5400 rpm makes for a great data drive, but while it will work for an os drive, it wont be as fast as a 7200 rpm or ssd.

It's 5900 RPM, not 5400 RPM... unless you got a special HDD model I'm unaware of.

The drive inside should be the ST5000DM000 [seagate.com].

Heh - didn't notice the 9 Wink

I guess I'm still old-skool and my eyes still only see 5400/7200/10K Big Grin

In either case - doesn't affect media hosting, and I think nit-picking 5400 vs 5900 isn't needed - is might as well be the same hug

Has anyone removed the drive from the case? Is this even possible?

Would like to use this in an external enclosure (with fan) as a backup device for a NAS.

Why are internal drives so much cheaper than a bare drive. Makes no sense.

the reason why external drives are cheaper then bare internal drives is that they want you to buy them to backup your data. thus, selling more hdds.
