The intent of this thread is for users, both new and not-so-new, to ask questions, and help with tips/advice. This is not by any means the "gospel". Please feel free to add your words of wisdom, and if you have questions, just ask! If you have a tip that will make sweeping easier for folks, please feel free to share. This is a community effort. We all will benefit in some way.

The Basic Advice/Tips for the new-to-sweeping folks.
Enter for the items you want/need. If you have no interest in trips, avoid the sweeps where the only prize is a trip. If you know you can't afford the tax on a new vehicle, avoid entering for those.

Set up folders in your bookmark/favorites. Create a separate one for each month, and file any sweeps you are interested in into the folder corresponding with when it ends. Then, if you have a day where you're pressed for time, enter at least the ones ending that day.

Play the instant win games.

Follow the rules! If a sweep is restricted to only females, a certain age group, certain states, etc, make sure you fit the criteria! If you don't, move on to another sweep that you do qualify for. Do not create a bunch of email addresses so you can enter something more than once, or so you can play an Instant win game more. The Sponsors can tell, and will DQ you. You're better off playing by the rules than cheating and getting disqualified and having NO entries.

Don't immediately dismiss essay required sweeps (or recipes, photos, etc)....well, unless you know you don't want to write something. A lot of people pass on them, so you might have a better shot at winning something.

Don't expect this to be lucrative enough to become a job. Yes, a lot of us win, and often, but not nearly enough to quit a job!

Expect things to go slow at first. It takes a while for the wins to roll in. But once they do...look out!

Expect to occasionally hit a dry spell. It happens to ALL of us.

DEFINITELY USE YOUR REAL INFO! If you use a fake phone number, and a sponsor is calling to notify people of wins, you'll never know what you missed out on. I, and many others, have been doing this for a long time, and we have no problems with sales calls. Also, use your real name. If your name is Robert or Catherine, using Bob or Cathy is ok, as they are known acceptable shorter versions of that name. if your name is Matilda, and you go by Fluffy, don't use Fluffy. Looking at your ID to get an affy notarized, they may reject it because the names don't match. The sponsor may also say "Fluffy won, not Matilda". So stick with using your real name, or something close to it.

Most of all, HAVE FUN! And don't be afraid to ask questions. We were all new to this at one time. Any one of us would be happy to answer questions.

For easy form filling, check out Roboform [roboform.com]. Google Tool bar and the autofill feature on IE also work well.

For Mac users, the best form filler is 1Password: http://agilewebsolutions.com/products/1Password (thanks javaFlower!)

FireFox Form Filler browser extensions: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/...ll&cat=all

To set up the autofill feature in IE: Click on Tools, then internet options, then choose 'content'. When that pops up, click on "Autocomplete", and make sure to check the boxes for forms and passwords on forms. This is not a good idea if you are on a shared/public computer!

Before we had this thread, limpstar posted this site for info on sweeps & taxes in the I Won Thread:
All About Sweepstakes Taxes
http://contests.about.com/od/taxe...gtaxes.htm

Also consider talking to your tax preparer and/or researching further into your tax responsibility.

I have found this page helpful in understanding some of sweep's law - a sweeps law co.'s site:
The Lustigman Firm; Attorneys at Law
http://www.sweepstakeslaw.com/
The Lustigman Firm provides experienced legal counsel that helps protect the business interests
of its advertising and promotional clients around the United States and Canada

What does " age of majority in your state or province " mean?

(sometimes abbreviated as AoM+ )

it's the legal age of that state or province...

The Age of majority is the threshold of adulthood as it is conceptualized in law. It is the chronological moment when children legally assume majority control over their persons and their actions and decisions, thereby terminating the legal control and legal responsibilities of their parents over and for them.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Age_of_majority

there's a list by country and by US State there....

For most purposes, the age of majority in the U.S. is 18,
except for 2 states with the age of 19 (Nebraska,Alabama)
and one state with the age of 21 (Mississippi)
and two (American Samoa and Puerto Rico) that retain 14 as the age of majority.
Occasionally PA is listed under the 19+ or 21+

Regarding missing prizes
If you were expecting a prize you've never received you can complain 1st to the sweepstakes administrator, then to the sweepstakes sponsor and finally to USPS Postal Inspectors

Occasionally a....less than ethical sweep will get posted.
You might end up finding unauthorized charges on your phone bill. Unauthorized charges on the phone bill are what's called "Cramming". Once you contact the company that's charging you, and you have requested your phone company remove the charge, if you so choose, you can file a complaint with the FCC.

FCC Online complaint form: esupport.fcc.gov/complaints.htm

You can also file your complaint with the FCC's Consumer Center by e-mailing [email protected] or calling 1-888-CALL-FCC (1-888-225-5322) voice or 1-888-TELL-FCC (1-888-835-5322) TTY

You can fax your complaint to 1-866-418-0232

Or by snail mail:
Federal Communications Commission
Consumer & Governmental Affairs Bureau
Consumer Inquiries and Complaints Division
445 12th Street, SW
Washington, D.C. 20554.

I also recommend a 3rd party block on your line to prohibit this from happening. 3rd party blocks don't affect your phone in any way, except by not allowing some company outside of your local phone company from adding charges to your bill.

I've only ever used actual notecards before. The way I see it a pack of 150+ notecards costs probably a dollar or two. Why bother risking them not accepting a piece of paper when you're already going to spend 45 cents on a stamp. The worst part is you'll probably never even know if they reject it since they would probably just pitch your 3x5 piece of paper in the trash instead of notifying you that it was unacceptable.
Thanks. Guess ill get the postacrds and some postcard stamps.

I've always hated when contests shipped prizes FedEx because (1) I had no idea what date it would be delivered and (2) if they left a notice that they would come back the next day, they never told you if it would be morning or afternoon. UPS, of course, notifies you by email a day or two in advance which I love.

Well, I ordered something (yes, I actually paid money for an item) and when I went to the website, they had a tracking button which brought me to FedEx (they always shipped UPS in the past so I was quite upset). After I entered my tracking number, there was a form asking if I wanted to get notified of status updates. I entered my email address and I can only hope the system works.

I don't think I've ever had that happen before. Do you suppose they're going to get a system like UPS? That would be sooooo fine.

FedEx will only notify you of exceptions to scheduled delivery (delays, etc) and when delivery has been made. I don't recall UPS giving a specific delivery time other than by end of day so there really isn't any difference in the two notifications.

UPS sends me an email that I'm getting a delivery and they give me morning or evening notices. Before noon or after 1:30. As I'm on the truck's route back to their base, I always get afternoon and usually around 5PM they show up. With FedEx, I get nothing, not even a notice that they're going to deliver anything. And they put the notices on the wrong security gate half the time so I never have a clue. I've had several things returned to sender. If they'd just send me an email telling me that something is coming on a specific date, I could make some arrangements.

Ive never done a mail in amoe before. If it requests a 3x5 card w your info does it really have to be a postcard? Can i use a regilar sheet of paper put inside an envelope? If it helps im looking to enter the pepsi/dollar general sweeps thats giving out over 1000prizes.
Hi, I think when it states 3 x 5 card you just need an index card which you can find in the school supplies, you can get ruled (lined or blank). I always get blank, you can get a big pack for maybe a $1 and most sweeps ask for #10 envelopes which is the long ones. If a sweeps just asks for a postcard then you don't have to mail in an envelope and you can get postcards already stamped at the post office just ask for stamped postcards. They're size 3 1/2 by 5 1/2 which is close to the smallest you can mail. Maybe this will help you some. GL

You are right! Came home from a funeral today to find it at the door - mine was an authentic NLF Game Ball signed by Packers tackle Bryan Bulaga (complete with a certificate of authenticity). I will be gifting this to my son; he really, really loves the Packers and will be so thrilled! What did you get?

Just getting back into sweeping again and having a little issue with roboform. I use the latest pro version and latest firefox version and it is really slow and won't load the forms until I switch to the tab. I had an older version when I used to do this a couple years ago and all forms filled right already when I switched to them. Does anyone have any experience with this?

I tried using the roboform lite extension before installing the pro version and it didn't work for at all, even though the site claims it works without installing the software.

See if this would help: Tools => Options => Tabs => Uncheck "Don't load tabs until selected"

My nephew's football team was entered in this contest https://slickdeals.net/f/4912738-Gatorade-Fuel-like-a-Pro-to-Train-with-a-Pro-Sweepstakes-9-30-12?v=1

(sorry I don't know how to make pretty links)

when the contest ended his New York high school was in first place. When the winners were to be announced we were in the middle of hurricane Sandy. Anyway, BIL called/e-mailed/tweeted Gatorade asking for list of winners for the NJ/NY/CT portion of this contest and has not received an answer from them.

So I haven't actually won a trip prize yet, but I'm dreaming. look around Most of the trip packages for the contests I'm ending are for four persons. Trouble is, we are a family of 6. Has anyone won a trip package and been able to add additional guests?

Thank you, in my quest for faster loading I came across that, one thing I didn't consider was I downloading a huge software patch and I think that was causing my roboform to load a bit slower, it's better now, but still not as fast as I remember it. As in, sometimes I switch to a tab and the form will be blank and then 2-5 seconds later it will fill.

I've never won one either, so this is just my best guess, but I'm sure you could have 4 go for the prize and then make your own arrangements for the other 2.

I've been using roboform for a long time now, and I seem to remember a few versions of Firefox ago that started happening for me too except it wasn't that long of a wait. I don't pay attention much but I think my roboform doesn't fill in info until I switch to the tab, but I'm pretty sure it does it almost instantly. No 2-5 second wait at all.
