Thread Details

I just got back from Home Depot because we needed to buy paint. We don't have Lowes around us so I didn't do that deal, plus some people just like BEHR paint.

Thursday - Saturday you get:

$5 off 1 gallon BEHR paint and/or
$20 off 5 gallon BEHR paint.

Gallon paint ranges from $26 to about $35 depending on what type you need. For my sake, I got the $32 a gallon paint. Now to the "deal" part of things.

No limit on rebate and located here:

https://www.homedepotrebates.com/.../paint.jsp

You need to Lowes 10% moving coupon (only good up to $50) I had it on my phone and just showed the person at the cash register. This might vary from store to store but they will tell you this is a one time use. We all know the saying at SD. That is located here:

http://media.mahalo.com/upload/8/...110818.PNG

It doesn't has an expiration date on it but if they want a "real" one, it takes 2-3 days via E-mail to get one. Just go to your local PO and ask for a change of address package. It will have a code you have to enter at the website on the insert.

Now you can get ANOTHER 11% off if you have a Menards around you. Heck, you might not even need one around you but this expires on SATURDAY. That is located here:

https://www.homedepotrebates.com/11percentmatch/

So overall this is the break down:

8 (1 gallon BEHR pain) x $32 = $256

$256 - 10 % ( Lowes coupon) = $25.60 off

$256 - 11 % (Menards rebate) = $25.16 off

8 x $5 (1 gallon rebate) = $40 off

$256
- $25.60 (lowes coupon)
+ $16.64 tax (6.5% here)
- $ 25.16 (Manards rebate)
- $40.00 (BEHR rebate)

Total paid: $181.88 = $22.74 per gallon

I hope this helps some people!

I have an HD pro account and get discounts on Behr paint and still will not buy it for exterior work. Price is high for a paint that takes multiple coats and fades fast. Interior does a great job but they miss the mark on exterior. I only say it in the hopes they get better soon

Can you then tell us which exterior paint work better or best?

Obviously, you will get a lot of opinions on what is good exterior paint. Through my research a good all around exterior paint is Sherwin Williams exterior Duration (Satin sheen is generally preferred).

I have had no problems with Behr exerior and have used it quite a bit. My favorite is probably Sherwin Williams Superpaint. Found Duration to be far over rated for the price.
Consumer Reports always finds Behr at or near the top of their ratings.
I buy enough to get the 20% discount at HD. BUT everyone that has held a paintbrush has a opinion on paint.

Satin on the outside and flat on the inside. Utility and baths go with a satin or semigloss. Trim always semi-gloss. Never go over oil with latex. Prep and primer will be key to your success.

Sherwin Williams for exterior. I have had Behr refund me on 5 gallon pails and had the person on the phone say they have trouble with coverage. Average consumer might not what should or shouldn't be the norm but it shouldn't take 3 coats of anything to cover a white primer and the red took 4 before it was close to acceptable

Flat on the inside? My house has flat on the interior - from previous owners - and it looks, well, flat. Any newer higher end house here in CT doesn't have flat on the interior; I've been painting my place room by room and just by going to eggshell there's one hell of a difference in the "richness" (not $$) of the room and wall coloring - makes it look "higher quality". Not to mention flat is about impossible to clean.

Along the same lines... bought 2 gallons a week ago... too early for the rebate.

Yup, flat on the inside, You might be able to get away with eggshell but its a tough call. With anything more:
1) any imperfections with the sheetrock or base will stand out
2) any mistakes or breaks in the painting require the entire wall to be repainted
3) impossible to spot paint. New paint will stand out

Typically, the higher the sheen the more durability.

BEHR paint barely covers!! I would not get and use it even if they were giving it away for free. My time is worth more than the cost of paint. It takes 4 coats to paint any wall with this brand. This paint is horrible. IMO, I prefer Glidden, Dutch Boy, or Kelley Moore.

I've used Behr's Ultra Premium line for years and continue to do so. Interior and exterior, on rental properties and my own homes.

We have a "Gold" painter's account which gives us an unlimited 20% off at the register on paints (one gal min.), which is really nice on such expensive paint.

This recent Consumer Reports report stated that Behr's Ultra Premium line is one of the best paints out there. (attached, 1pg PDF)
