It can't hurt trying. Best case scenario you get $10 back to blow on SD.laugh out loud

Nice. I was thinking of getting it directly from Anova for $130, but for some reason they were charging sales tax even in CA, so I was trying to sort that out. If I'm going to get charged sales tax anyway, might as well go with Amazon w/ Prime shipping and $10 off

Got the v1 for $99. Best steak I've cooked on the first try - 134 for 2 hrs. Picked up containers at a local GFS (a cross between restaurant supply and Sam's best I can figure, they're new to the STL area).

Although give props to the guy who modded the $16 Igloo cooler from walmart in the other thread. Pics on reddit.

Would buy again. Cooking steak that good - *that consistently* with the bonus to focus on your sides while the protein does its thing with no tending on your part, is worth every penny. Cook two meals and it's paid for itself vs. eating out at a steakhouse.

If you're on the fence, just do it.

I had the same experience. Perfect steaks with no real effort.

it's consistent but there's no way to get the caramelized crust with the torch... just a slightly blackened/burned surface

the ideal application for sous vide is pretty limited based on my experience. good for certain type of fish cooking but that's about it.

Question, is v2 better than v1? is it worth $20 extra to get the v2?

Have you guys tried cooking something tough and chewy and then grilling afterwards? I wanna try beef sweetbreads or chicken hearts. I bet they would work well.

What about throwing the meat under the broiler for a few minutes or on a grill?
