Petition to stop cellular locking of this device by Verizon

https://www.change.org/p/verizon-...lte-xt1528

PSA/WARNING

There have been reports that the Lollipop 5.1 OTA update breaks the "unlock" status of the Moto E (no longer allows switching from LTE/CDMA to LTE/GSM with the Network app).

Stay away for the time being!
After upgrade to 5.1, Please do not remove your GSM sim card, remove your sim card has the same effect as switching from LTE/GSM to LTE/CDMA

Seems like somebody over XDA figured out how to fix issue:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/s...tcount=141

--------------

Moto E = Verizon Prepaid Moto E 2nd Gen LTE XT1528PP 2015 Model

Q: Can I use the Moto E on T-Mobile (or T-Mobile MVNO's like MetroPCS)?
A: Yes, you can follow dzap's instructions on enabling GSM/LTE mode here

Q: What Network Performace Can I expect with T-Mobile for the Moto E?
A: For T-Mobile:
  • 4G LTE Band 4 AWS 1700 (primary) - YES
  • 4G LTE Band 2 PCS 1900 (secondary) - YES
  • 4G LTE Band 12 700-A (supplementary) - No
  • 3G/4G HSPA/HSPA+ Band 4 AWS 1700 (primary) - YES
  • 3G/4G HSPA/HSPA+ Band 2 PCS 1900 (refarm) - YES
  • 2G EDGE 1900Mz (primary) - YES

Q: Can I use the Moto E on AT&T (or AT&T MVNO's like Cricket)?
A: Yes, you can follow dzap's instructions on enabling GSM/LTE mode here

Q: What Network Performace Can I expect with AT&T for the Moto E?
A: For AT&T:
  • 4G LTE Band 17 700-B (primary) - No
  • 4G LTE Band 4 AWS 1700 (supplementary) - YES
  • 4G LTE Band 2 PCS 1900 (secondary) - YES
  • 4G LTE Band 5 850 (secondary) - YES
  • 4G LTE Band 29 (upcoming) - No
  • 3G/4G HSPA/HSPA+ Band 5 850 (primary) - YES
  • 3G/4G HSPA/HSPA+ Band 2 PCS 1900 (secondary) - YES
  • 2G EDGE 850Mz (primary) - YES
  • 2G EDGE 1900Mz (secondary) - YES

Q: Can I use the Moto E on Verizon Postpaid?
A: Officially, you can use the Moto E on Verizon Postpaid only after it's been activated once, and only after waiting 6 months after initial activation date.
However, there is a small loophole where if, before you ever turn on the phone, you swap the SIM inside with your own Postpaid SIM (MicroSIM) then it will work no problem!

If you have an active post paid nano SIM, you can buy a nano to micro SIM card adapter off of ebay or amazon for cheap and use the nano SIM in the adapter.

My Note 4 on Verizon was just too big of a phone....Picked up a Moto E at Walmart for $50....This is a nice functioning phone. Camera is lousy, but I rarely use it....Dropped my postpaid SIM card from the Note 4 into it and it works perfectly. Battery lasts a long time

Seems like a great deal. Can I use my best buy gift card or rewards and still get the $25 rewards back?

This is a nice deal but Fry's not around me for several hundred miles so I doubt BB will accept price match if the closest Fry's is in Georgia and I'm trying to PM in NYC. laugh out loud

1's good enough for me. Although, might pick up another one if those 5.1 issues ever get fixed (VZW locked if SIM swap? wtf?!)

No you can't, I checked. I had to pay with cc and that way hubby got points, otherwise, no points as I already earned on my account.

Nice post OP. TU.

I believe the questions remains;

Is this plug and play with Verizon postpaid customers (meaning take current postpaid sim > insert into Moto E > Turn on Moto E> Have VZW postpaid Service)

Thanks, the earlier threads have people who have successfully used this post paid. Shoot for $40-$25, is good even as a WiFi only device for little kids, etc.

In using it successfully in PTel, which is T-Mobile mvno, running 5.1.

Over 50 guests reading so hopefully people can benefit from this if they missed the earlier deal.

I was just thinkingng about getting it pmd against Walmart at BB for $49.99-$25 rewards and decided to check Fry's real quick, glad I did.

One more question:

I purchased a luge moto earlier this week (still waiting to receive).

Do I dare go into bestbuy using the same membership and expect to receive the $25 rewards points again (one for the luge/one for the E)?

I guess my question is; Can I double dip here?

I'm assuming you cannot combine rewards points from different accounts so this would be pretty big ($25 @ BB does not go very far but $50 does).

Thanks Again
