Whether "slatted bed base" (Add $50) is required for this unit?

Yes, as well as a mattress, shits, pillows, etc. This is just a frame.

Shits are free. Smilie According to the product description, a SKORVA midbeam is included in the price but is packaged separately. Slatted bed base and mattress sold separately.

If you plan to buy furniture this weekend, take a posse with you for the free food.

Any reason I couldn't use a few 1x4s as my "slatted bed base"?

That's all their bed base is:
LURÖY - Slatted bed base - $50.00
http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog...#/00160215

They do have the 'LÖNSET' for $90 also, which seems at least like it isn't just a few pieces of wood glued together. http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog...#/80278715

I was looking at these frames last week, does anyone have any experience with the quality of them? I have some other ikea furniture and am actually surprised with how durable it has been. But when I was in store the person in the department said these have no warranty at all, which has me questioning if it would last a few years?

Don't forget to combine the Eat for free deal
There doesn't seem to be a limit on food bill? A family of 4 can easily spend $30 on food.

Eat for FREE

Dine in our Restaurant and we'll deduct your Restaurant total from any home furnishings purchase over $100!*

How it works
1. Purchase your meal in our Restaurant.
2. Receive a coupon with your receipt.
3. Give your coupon and receipt to the Check-outs cashier and receive the total amount of your meal deducted from your purchase of over $100.

*Restaurant purchase must be consumed on the premises. Limit one restaurant receipt per store discount. Home furnishings purchase must be made the same day as the restaurant purchase. Not valid on IKEA Gift Card purchases. Simply hand over your IKEA Restaurant receipt with the coupon to the store cashier to have your discount applied. Total home furnishing purchase must be $100 or more before tax. Offer valid July 3 - 5, 2015 only at participating IKEA stores.

I don't have this bed frame, but I do own a HEMNESS bed frame and it's held up well.

Disassembling the furniture for a move and then reassembling it makes it less sturdy.
I haven't seen the drawers but based on other Ikea drawers I've seen, I'm guessing you can't put anything very heavy in them or the bottom of the drawer will fall out. Bedding is probably fine.

Warning with those handles on the drawers, they stick out and have very sharp corners! If you buy this frame I'd highly suggest finding something else to use for handles that are rounded at the edges. The corners at the foot of the bed frame are no fun either, but the drawer handles are just awful!

i have the white one of these and its held up well, I've already moved once with and its no less sturdy on reassembly, i think its because there are only like 4 screws that go straight into the particle board that need to be removed and put back in when you disassemble to move, the rest are metal to metal joints that don't wear on disassembly/reassembly. i didn't put the drawer handles on so its sleeker and more aerodynamic
