juiooui 10 July 22, 2015 at 12:21 PM
Im looking for a internet voip phone solution so that I can eliminate a every climbing higher phone bill, but which is reliable that has a good 911 service? the reason I keep the landline is because of the 911 for someone in the house, dows anyone know of a reliable 911 on voip so I can dump my phone company once and for all?

With a traditional landline, a corded phone works in a power outage and there aren't many things that would prevent you from using it.

With ANY VoIP provider, a problem with or loss of power to your ATA, modem, or router will all disrupt your phone service.

IP phones will go out if the power goes out or you lose internet service. If you are looking for something to use in an emergency other than a land line an old cell phone will work. Even if they don't have service, all cells can call 911.

Cells may also go down in power outages though, but that would require a much larger scale problem than what could knock out your IP phone.

Supposedly any cell phone, regardless of having service, will still connect to 911.

(Found this out the hard way... Several years ago one of my kids hit the "emergency call" from an old deactivated phone that still had a charge.)

Yes, but they'll have a harder time locating you. Also 2G phones won't work much longer.

There some good info here: http://wiki.voip.ms/article/E911

The e911 service fee is the majority of our monthly bill. EEK!

Yes, analog service can survive some pretty long power outages, but the phone companies are trying to move away from supporting their copper lines as fast as possible. They too want to go to a VoIP type of service everywhere. It's cheaper for them to provide.

Actually, the reason is that copper doesn't provide the speeds that customers want for internet. VOIP isn't cheaper than regular TDM to provide.

I use OOMA I have a UPS on the cable box and OOMA so as long as the cable is up I am OK if you want you can usually ad d a cell phone to your plan leave it at home on a charger with bluetooth cordless phones connected to it. Most everyone has a cell so not sure why you are worried about landline phone.
