Thanks to MichaelR2611 for sending me the good news!!!

UPDATE!!!! A lot of suspicious things are going on!!!

The Comcast link no longer works nor does the iconic portal.

People have noticed that they are losing the ability to transfer upgrades online although it seems to be coming and going as if they are working on the website.

People who ordered through Best Buy online on UDP lines are getting phone calls from Verizon on behalf of Best Buy with case numbers to reference.

People trying to order through Amazon are noticing that some phones do not have the 2 year contract option.

One poster said he upgraded on a UDP through Verizon online and the phone on that line stopped working. He called and the rep switched the line off of UDP.

It seems like something is going on. It is a problem for those of us who have UDP and basic lines due to the loopholes but TDP lines and ME plans aren't affected.

I THINK A SMART MOVE WOULD BE TO UPGRADE TODAY. GET THE DEVICE ON ITS WAY TO YOU. IF TOMORROW PROVES THAT THE LOOPHOLE STILL EXISTS, THEN REFUSE THE DELIVERY AND HAVE YOUR UPGRADE RESET.

This will insure that you get something out of your upgrade in case what we have been told is, in fact, not true.
See the update in the OP - suspicious things are happening. It affects only those with UDP and basic lines. Not TDP lines or ME plans.
If you purchase something through a post on our site, Slickdeals may get a small share of the sale.

Thanks OP. My contract is up in mid-September and was hoping to grab something new on contract before/during the Black Friday season.

you can. That is the whole point - as long as you don't switch to the new plans, you can continue to get subsidized phones and stay on contract.

The Best Buy trick sounds like it should still work, so yes.

So is it a good idea to get a "free phone" if person is eligible for a free upgrade before 8-13-2015? Or will it be better to wait and go with the new plan pricing? I have 2 iPhone and a iPad on my current plan....3 GB data.....not a heavy user....
Any advice.....

You need to compare your plan and prices to the new ones being offered. Are you on unlimited data now?

I'm guessing that next gen phones will be coming out shortly after 8-13-2015.

So I'm confused. How does this affect every day Verizon customers on More Everything plans?

Why would you want the carrier to subsidize you phone? Seems like paying more for less.

some of the grandfathered plans are the same cost or less than the current plans yet you get more data with the grandfathered plans

I was waiting for a Note 5 -- which won't be available until after 8/13. I'm not sure if I should just get a subsidized Note 4 now...
