Can no longer access SD on Chrome

I was only able to get here because I used the browser I detest most in the world...IE.

Several days ago I tried to get to SE and what I get with Chrome is:

That did not copy exactly, but it is a white page with these words *scattered* about and none of the links work.

Am I the only one with this problem?

I am running Win 8 on this HP laptop.

Any suggestions to get my SD back the way it was. I absolutely refuse to use IE for anything other than an emergency.

Have you tried deleting cookies/cache and trying again?

It sounds like your browser isn't always loading the website's css file(s) and possibly other portions of the page. I sporadically have similar issues (on various websites), but it generally doesn't persist more than a few minutes. I think there is/used to be a bug in chrome related to this. This used to happen a lot more often for me so I think this bug may have been fixed but I'm also no longer suing my ISP's DNS servers.

There are a number of things that could cause this or that might fix it:
-Some the connections to the CDN (content delivery network*) could be timing out or otherwise failing / being blocked.
-Corrupt content in your browser's cache, hence suggestions to clear the cache. Rebooting or at least relaunching chrome could help. I experience this type of issue more frequently when I have pending chrome or windows updates.
-Reload the web page, try CRTL-F5 and Sift-F5 I think one of those forces a page reload overriding the cache but forget which.
-Overzealous filters in an adblock extension or antivirus/firewall suite. Update filters or check to see what it's blocking.
-DNS server problems potentially making a CDN unreachable, try google DNS by setting your computer to use 8.8.8.8 or 8.8.4.4 as your primary DNS server
-A DDoS or similar attack against the CDN is in progress (would effect many users). Some ISPs can be slow to update DNS changes a CDN may make when something like this is happening. Using an alternate DNS server may help.
-Try an incognito window as this will disable extensions unless you've allowed some in incognito and will bypass cache issues.

*a CDN provides services to websites to cache content and deliver content more efficiently especially when many users are using the site at the same time and would otherwise render a site difficult to use.

Thanks, everyone. The incognito window worked. I absolutely do not understand these machines. SD is the ONLY site that does this.

Fixed good enough for me for now...sure appreciate the help.

I know I can always count on the SDers.

incognito deletes cookies when close window, need to log in again. not a good solution. only want you try if it's cookies or cache related problem.

did you try delete cookie? settings -> show advanced settings -> privacy -> content settings -> all cookies and site data -> search slickdeals -> delete

delete whole cache if still doesn't work.

or maybe extensions problem, extensions default don't apply to incognito.

Probably just cached a corrupt CSS file. CSS files are generally static, so they're set with long cache timeouts. If you get a corrupt one, the site is going to look like crap until you flush your cache.

As an aside, the network trace of a slickdeals load is truly horrifying. I counted 608 [edit: 610, a couple stragglers just came in] requests all told. It's a miracle it renders at all Smilie

did you happen to try clicking this link (was in the post i linked you to above...cutting to the chase to post it here this time)?

your issue seemed similar to the one reported here: https://slickdeals.net/f/7924293-page-layout-gone-wrong

and that was a solution offered by one of the devs

just curious since incognito is obviously not an ideal long term solution Smilie

At least 494 of those are ad networks and trackers... Incongito may not be such a bad long term solution after all. The stylesheet has one of the slower load times, it could probably stand some optimization.
