Issue with WatchESPN as a DirecTV subscriber?

RUsum1 9,605 1,704 October 27, 2015 at 02:48 PM
WatchESPN constantly gives me issues when trying to log in. Sometimes I will get an error that says my email and login are incorrect. Sometimes I get another random error. Then it will work all of a sudden.

I know my login info is correct because I use the exact same info to log directly into the DirecTV website.

I tried calling ESPN recently to ask about the problem and they are telling me that it's an issue with DirecTV since AT&T recently bought them. I ask why WatchESPN works no problem through the Android app but it doesn't work on multiple computers using multiple browsers. She says to call DirecTV and mention a "syncing issue" as if that's some sort of magic code word and they will instantly know what the problem is.

Is anyone else having login issues?

I would use a program like ccleaner to clean up your machine and remove your cookies. Do you have remember passwords for the site?

I ran CCleaner and it still happens. After a while it eventually lets me in. It has never given me a problem on my phone.

For instance, just now it gave me an error that I had the incorrect login info about seven times in a row then it let me sign in. I had my password copied to clipboard and just pasted it repeatedly

Of course now it won't let me on at all. And now after about ten or fifteen minutes of watching it on my phone, it makes my phone freeze and I have to remove the battery to restart it. Phone is a Galaxy S5

I remembered I made this post and figured I would update with how I got this resolved (at least for now).

I found other threads with the same problem and one of them mentioned how they clicked "forgot password" from the WatchESPN site (but said it was also giving problems with HBO Go and something else). This redirected him to the DirecTV website which then redirected to the AT&T site. You get a temp password and then make your new password (which I made the same password as before) and now I can login to WatchESPN again.

I guess it might have something to do with the merger that happened a while back? I'm just glad I can now sign into WatchESPN again.

HA! Spoke too soon. Back to not being able to log in. I guess it was a one time thing.

Still trying to find a solution. I have a little but more info.

I contacted DirecTV and they did some login syncs and made me change passwords several times and stuff but still can't log in. I can however log into DirecTV and choose their watch TV option and stream live TV on my computer. This is fine if I'm trying to watch something live. But if I want to stream a past airing of a show (like something on Fox.com) I can't authenticate. It gives me the error that my User ID and password are incorrect.

I was able to try my info on a computer at work and using the same info, it logged me into WatchESPN. Does this mean that somehow my home computers are somehow flagged or something? It is more than one computer that doesn't work. I have Comcast Internet at home. I went into my settings while logged into Comcast and turned off auto-authenticate but I get the same error for WatchESPN.

Also, I ran CCleaner several times to delete cookies and cache but that hasn't helped.

What the heck is the issue?
