Thread Details

It's that time of year again when Garage sales are popular. I have seen some discussion of Garage Sales in regular discussion threads, and perhaps there is talk of it in the BS thread, but I think it would be good to have it's own thread and people can add in the WIKI what sold for them and at what price - or what they will sell it for.

This way people having a garage sale can have a nice reference sheet and can learn from the mistakes of others. I will post in the WIKI info I have read.

Yes, I am having a garage sale this weekend at a friends work. I have read some info on another site and it is nice that they have their own thread for this.

Garage sales are not for everyone, please no bashing on those who wish to do it. It's a way to make money to buy more coupons and fuel your 'addiction'. LOL!

Mods, if you think this would be better suited in a different forum, please advise or move. I just thought it would be good to have a garage sale discussion and a WIKI to boot to help others.

Thanks!

Vicki

PLEASE NOTE: This WIKI is a reference guide to price the items you may have. Know your states laws before selling new unopened items or medicine. Laws vary from state to state, and can from city to city on what is allowed to be sold at a garage sale or flea market. Sell at your own risk. Thanks!

Garage Sale Tips:
- Use a muffin tin to keep coin denominations separated.
- A fishing tackle box is a great way to keep money safe and organized - coins separated in the compartments, and bills underneath. Some even have locks
- Use a carpenter's apron with pockets in the front. Works great, bills and .5 and .10 on one side, .25 on the other. It goes with you, for safety and convenience. Works great for school concession stands too..

Prices here in the wiki show a range of prices SDers have gotten for each product/item.

*Please post what you sold items at in your individual post - and if you are in a big metropolis or not - this sometimes makes a difference.*

thanks to the GS discussion thread i had my first stockpile sale at my house this Saturday.
Made $1350 !!! I'm in SoCal but the weather was really cold, foggy and misty in the morning then things started to clear up.WOW. I was super nervous and scared that since its my first sale that no one would come or i would only make $500 or so. I posted on CL and made a couple of colorful garage sale signs using those campaign ad holder stuff.

One thing i learned frm this is to be really organized. Despite saying no early birds on the ad, of course not everyone comes to these sales from looking at the CL ad. I was bombarded with people walking all over my garage and the tables looking at items asking left n right how much things were ugh!

Nonetheless... it was successful since it was items i have stocked up for about 6-8 months of couponing. I can't wait to do another sale!

If anyone else still has Maalox in their stockpile, you should try to sell it on ebay since they temporarily discontinued it. At the FM I was asking $2.50, but on ebay I was able to sell all 5 of my 12 oz bottles for between $15.99-$19.99 each and they had December '12 and January '13 expiration dates or they would have gone for even more. The 65 ct tablets I had (with a better date) went for $30.01 !!

Benefiber is another one that is selling for big money too.

Culturelle was a hot seller on the bay too.........it's amazing how many folks use the stuff and think if it's priced under $30 for 60caps, it's a steal!!

Asked a couple of weeks ago..............I am thinking 50% retail for the Coty $3 colognes, Dana $3 and $2 colognes. If you didn't have any knowledge of the deals.............would you pay $1.50 for Coty and Dana fragrances? Never sold individual fragrances, usually sell the gift sets that go on sale 12/26, never the little bottles...............

Is there a recall on the Malox?

I'm not sure, but they have temporarily stopped producing it. Perhaps it was a voluntary recall, like the Excedrin that is on a voluntary recall and is able to be sold on ebay.

Speaking of Culturelle, does anyone happen to have any left? Hubby uses this stuff and I'll gladly trade for anything I have to get more. I just can't wrap my head around paying that much for it. PM me and we'll see if we can work out a deal.

FDA warns of Maalox Total Relief medication errors

The FDA and Novartis Consumer Health have notified healthcare professionals about reports of serious medication errors involving patients who used Maalox Total Relief (bismuth subsalicylate) when they had intended to use a Maalox liquid antacid. Maalox Total Relief is indicated as an anti-diarrheal and for the relief of upset stomach. Maalox Advanced Regular Strength (aluminum hydroxide/magnesium hydroxide) and Maalox Advanced Maximum Strength liquids (aluminum hydroxide/magnesium hydroxide/simethicone) are antacids indicated for heartburn, acid indigestion, sour stomach, and upset stomach.

Maalox Total Relief should not be used in people who have or have a history of gastrointestinal ulcers or a bleeding disorder. It also should not be taken by children recovering from a viral infection, nor by individuals taking certain medications (eg, oral antidiabetic drugs, anticoagulants, clopidogrel, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, and other anti-inflammatory drugs).

Novartis has agreed to change the name of Maalox Total Relief to one that will not include the name "Maalox." The renamed product is expected to be made available in September 2010. Until that time, healthcare professionals and patients should be aware that Maalox Total Relief and traditional Maalox products are not interchangeable and are intended to treat different medical conditions.

You're in luck, as it will be free 1/6 at CVS.

Actually, it will be a MM. If you go to the 1/6 CVS thread, Randy posted a link to a $2/1 IP.

Need suggestion...I am a regular couponer and lots of stockpile (even after donating lot of stuff)..I stay in apartment, so cant even put garage sale. Tried selling in eBay, it took me more time to put the ad than sell..is there any other alternative way I could lessen my stockpile?

Have you tried selling some select items to people you (or one of your family) works with? Or on Craigslist?

As a general rule, I don't sell alot of stuff, but one time I sold some diapers on Craigslist after I ended up with some I got super cheap. My husband was telling one of the guys where he works about them and since then we've probably sold 100 - 200 packs of diapers.

How much do you sell your diapers?
I had the jumbo packs at $8 each or 3 for $22 and it's a slow seller on CL
It makes me cringe to let it go for $5 for jumbo pack but idk... need some ideas from others.
the BOX from cvs, i sell for $15 and the 300+ count box from Target for $30 (reg price is $35)
Are my prices too high for resale?
