Thread Details

It's that time of year again when Garage sales are popular. I have seen some discussion of Garage Sales in regular discussion threads, and perhaps there is talk of it in the BS thread, but I think it would be good to have it's own thread and people can add in the WIKI what sold for them and at what price - or what they will sell it for.

This way people having a garage sale can have a nice reference sheet and can learn from the mistakes of others. I will post in the WIKI info I have read.

Yes, I am having a garage sale this weekend at a friends work. I have read some info on another site and it is nice that they have their own thread for this.

Garage sales are not for everyone, please no bashing on those who wish to do it. It's a way to make money to buy more coupons and fuel your 'addiction'. LOL!

Mods, if you think this would be better suited in a different forum, please advise or move. I just thought it would be good to have a garage sale discussion and a WIKI to boot to help others.

Thanks!

Vicki

PLEASE NOTE: This WIKI is a reference guide to price the items you may have. Know your states laws before selling new unopened items or medicine. Laws vary from state to state, and can from city to city on what is allowed to be sold at a garage sale or flea market. Sell at your own risk. Thanks!

Garage Sale Tips:
- Use a muffin tin to keep coin denominations separated.
- A fishing tackle box is a great way to keep money safe and organized - coins separated in the compartments, and bills underneath. Some even have locks
- Use a carpenter's apron with pockets in the front. Works great, bills and .5 and .10 on one side, .25 on the other. It goes with you, for safety and convenience. Works great for school concession stands too..

Prices here in the wiki show a range of prices SDers have gotten for each product/item.

*Please post what you sold items at in your individual post - and if you are in a big metropolis or not - this sometimes makes a difference.*

OMG GREAT sale....congrats!! Thank you for sharing your pricing details...I am having difficulty moving my Fusion Proglides. I only do sales a few times a year and started out selling them for $4 but then found this thread and folks were getting $6. I raised mine to $6ea or 2/$10 and still sold very well until last month. Confused J/w what others are getting for these?

P&g just changed packaging of proglides....it is now silver and only 1 cart refill. They are about $1.50 cheaper at cvs compared to the razors I have with 2 cart refills. Wondering if this will make the 2 refill packs more/less valuable?
I would think, they should be more valuable. I have a son who will only use these, and nothing else. He needs to be shaved perfectly everyday (he's a marine). So I only sell about 20% of mine. He said if I lived in his town, I culd sell hundreds, lol. I would't go down on the price. This stuff is going up so fast in the stores, and people are really going to be watching their pocketbooks this year, with the taxes biting the paychecks more. I think sales should be booming, and most stuff will fly much better. I would stick with 6.00

I'm sitting on over 100 Nivea women's body washes that I want to sell tomorrow morning. I'll consider myself really lucky if I get $2.50. Things like body wash and shampoo have really slowed down recently. What's really hot right now (at least for me) are cosmetics, toothpaste, and detergent.

If I had 100 bottles of Nivea, I would have none at all. I cannot keep it stocked.

I had Nivea, Softsoap, and Dove men's body wash. l probably sold 100 body washes total but I did have some Nivea left. Softsoap
and Dove men's were much slower. Pantene hardly sold and I have more stock than my local Target. On the other hand, I had 150
Colgate toothpastes and they sold out in the first 10 minutes.

I can't keep the nivea in stock either. What really shocked me is how fast that High-T stuff is moving, I started with 4 cases and am now down to less than 2. Seems like every male that came picked it up and put it in their basket, along with a razor of course. I've never had a suppliment move like that. Am I missing something? Are they advertising the heck out of it?

I didn't do too bad considering this last weekend was the last weekend of the month, but then again, those large tax refunds are starting to roll in!

I'm starting to get low on toothpaste of all things, luckily it's free this week again.

I agree, that dove stuff was a DOG! I haven't had a decent amount of nivea in a while it's hard when the RA deal is 2 per household (don't get me wrong, I have multiple cards, but still rough to get the amount neede), but the axe that I got after x-mas keeps moving. Unfortunately I'm down to only one tub of the axe left and when it's gone it's normally gone for the year. Luckily, I was smart and broke down the gift sets. It sells so much faster individually (and for a higher price than we could get out of the gift sets too).

Anyone else going psycho crazy at Wags the last couple of days with the $5/$20? I think I'm in LOVE!

Re High-T: IIRC this is also sold at GNC at about 6 times what it was on sale for at Wags. I think that the count is also 60 instead of 30. I am not sure what you are asking for it, but $10-$15 for something that is $30 is a deal to someone that's into a healthier lifestyle. I have a lot of men that come specifically for the vitamins that I have. I don't make a killing on them, but I pretty much know what sells. The time of year might also have something to do with it, since New Year's Resolutions are still somewhat being upheldLMAO.

I've been doing this for almost 3 years. I started noticing last year that male customers were becoming the new norm for my sales. I started out catering mostly to females with the items that I bought. I have tried to listen to requests from the men as to what they would like to see at my sales. I figure that if I can give them some of the items they request, they will be more apt to spread the word to other male friends about my sales. One of the most requested items is bar soap. So, I have been trying to add a little variety. I absolutely can't give away Irish Spring bodywash, but the bars fly.

A little list of items that are hard to sell in my area of the country (the South, ya'llwave):

-tampons
-makeup, except for eyeliner & mascara
-most medicine (I am lucky to get $1 for most)
-men's bw, except Axe, Old Spice or Gillette
-haircolor

There's probably more, but since I haven't had a sale since last October EEK!, I can't remember it all.

It's been RA and CVS for me. I've picked up a 10 year supply of shaving gel over the last 2 days and let's not even get started on Poise and Nivea lip. I'm wondering how the Schick Hydro disposables will sell. Schick disposables usually don't do well for me but I'm going heavy on the Hydros.
